Munich (pron.: /ˈmjuːnɪk/; German: München, pronounced [ˈmʏnçən] ( listen),[2] Bavarian: Minga) is the capital and the largest city of the German state of Bavaria. It is located on the River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is the third largest city in Germany, behind Berlin and Hamburg. About 1.42 million people live within the city limits. Munich was the host city of the 1972 Summer Olympics. Its inhabitants are sometimes called Munichers in English.
The city's motto is München mag dich (Munich likes you). Before 2006, it was Weltstadt mit Herz (Cosmopolitan city with a heart). Its native name, München, is derived from the Old High German Munichen, meaning by the monks' place. The city's name derives from the monks of the Benedictine order who founded the city; hence the monk depicted on the city's coat of arms. Black and gold—the colours of the Holy Roman Empire—have been the city's official colours since the time of Ludwig the Bavarian.
Modern Munich is a financial and publishing hub, and a frequently top-ranked destination for migration and expatriate location in livability rankings. Munich achieved 4th place in frequently quoted Mercer livability rankings in 2011.[3] For economic and social innovation, the city was ranked 15th globally out of 289 cities in 2010, and 5th in Germany by the 2thinknow Innovation Cities Index based on analysis of 162 indicators.[4] In 2010, Monocle ranked Munich as the world's most livable city (in 2012, Munich was ranked fifth in Monocle's ranking, yet remained the highest ranked city in Germany)

Alemania es un país con una rica historia en la que destacan multitud de elementos culturales. Símbolo de esa historia son muchos los castillos que abundan en su territorio, fruto de la riqueza de nobles y reyes de otras épocas. Estos castillos abarcan una amplia etapa histórica, desde los construidos en la Edad Media hasta los construidos en el siglo XIX. Algunos ejemplos son:
- Castillo de Eltz: castillo medieval ubicado en las colinas entre Coblenza y Tréveris. Data del siglo XII, y desde entonces pertenece a la misma familia. La parte más antigua del edificio es un torreón de estilo románico mientras que al resto del conjunto le sigue un estilo gótico tardío. El complejo lo componen ocho torres de hasta ocho pisos con una altura entre 30 y 40 metros.
- Castillo de Hohenzollern: situado al sur de Stuttgart y vinculado a la dinastía Hohenzollern. El castillo se sitúa en la cumbre del monte que lleva su mismo nombre a unos 855 metros de altitud. La primera parte del castillo fue construida en el siglo XI, aunque posee al menos dos construcción más, una segunda en el siglo XV, y una tercera (el castillo actual) en el siglo XIX, de estilo neogótico.
- Castillo de Neuschwanstein: fortificación situada en Baviera, cerca de Füssen. Se trata de uno de los castillos neogóticos más famosos de Alemania. Fue mandado construir por Luis II de Baviera conocido como El rey loco en 1866. Como curiosidad añadida, este castillo fue el modelo a seguir en la construcción del famoso castillo de Disneyland.
- Castillo de Hohenschwangau: se encuentra en la ciudad que lleva su mismo nombre al sudoeste de Baviera y cerca de la frontera con Austria. Fue mandado construir por el padre del Rey Luis II de Baviera, el Rey Maximiliano II. Su ubicación pertenece a un histórico lugar donde se erigieron antiguas fortalezas, una inicial en el siglo XII, pasó por diversas reconstrucciones hasta que quedó abandonada en el siglo XVI y posteriormente en ruinas ya en el siglo XIX. El arquitecto a cargo del proyecto del Rey Maximiliano fue Domenico Quaglio quien le dio el aspecto neogótico actual.
- Castillo de Burghausen: ubicado junto al río Salzach, en la frontera con Austria en el distrito de Altötting. Es considerado el castillo más largo de Europa. Su historia se remonta al año 1025 como propiedad imperial. Posteriormente la propiedad fue asignada a los Condes de Burghausen tras los cuales se sucedieron numerosos propietarios a través de los siglos donde la ciudad alcanzó un alto nivel político y económico.
- Castillo de Konigsteiner: se trata de una fortaleza situada en lo alto de una montaña en la región de Suiza Sajona cerca del pueblo de Konigstein. Fue utilizada como prisión durante siglos y en la actualidad destaca por su atracción turística. La primera referencia al castillo se remonta al año 1241.
Germany is a country with a rich history and many cultural elements. One of these elements are the castles which are around of his land, from nobility and royalty richness in other times. The origins of most of them are in the Medieval period to XIX century buildings. Some of them are:
- Eltz Castle: medieval castle located in the hills between Koblenz and Trier. It is from XII century and since then It is owned by the same family. The oldest part in this castle is a Romanic turret and the rest of the castle has a Neogotic style. The castle has eight towers with eight floors and a height around 30-40 metres.
- Hohenzollern Castle: It is located at south from Stuttgart in the top of a hill with the same name at 855 meters of height. The first part of the castle was built in the XI century, a second part was built in the XV century, and the third part (that´s actually) in the XIX century, by a Neogotic style.
- Neuschwanstein Castle: It is located in Bavaria near from Füssen. It is one of the most famous Neogotic castles in Germany. It was built by orders of King Louis II from Bavaria, known as Crazy King in 1866. This castle was the model followed by Walt Disney in his castles from Disneyland.
- Hohenschwangau Castle: It is located in the city that has the same name at the southwest of Bavaria and near from the Austrian borderline. It was built by Domenico Quaglio by the King Maximilian II orders. In this place, there was a lot of fortress and buildings until the last one in the XIX century.
- Burghausen Castle: It is located near to Salzach River in the Austrian borderline in the Altötting District. It is considered the largest castle in Europe. It History dated from the year 1025. When the Burghausen family got the property, the castle and the city has a high politic and economic level.
- Konigsteiner Castle: It is a fortress located in a hill in the Swiss-Saxony Region near to Konigstein town.
