Amerongen is a village in the central Netherlands on the border of the Utrecht Hill Ridge. It lies about 7 km south west of Veenendaal . The landscape rises from the flat water meadows of the Nederrijn to the Utrecht Hill Ridge . The highest point in the western Netherlands is located 2 km east of the village. The Amerongense Berg has a height of 69 metres above sea level.

  • 1. Amerongen Castle Amerongen
    Amerongen Castle was built between 1674 and 1680, on the site of a medieval castle that had been burned down by the French in 1673. The gardens still contain historic elements such as a conservatory dating from the 1890s. In 1918, the former German Kaiser Wilhelm II signed his abdication here and stayed till 1920, when he moved to Huis Doorn.
