The Araucanía , Araucanía Region is one of Chile's 16 first order administrative divisions and comprises two provinces: Malleco in the north and Cautín in the south. Its capital and largest city is Temuco; other important cities include Angol and Villarrica. Lake Villarrica, also known as Mallalafquén , is located about 700 kilometers south of Santiago in Chile’s Lake District in the southeast area of the Province of Cautín. Water sports such as sailing, kayaking, sport fishing and water skiing are popular in the summer due to the lake's warm waters . In winter, the average water temperature is around 10 °C. The Villarrica Volcano, one of the ten most active in the world, is situated to the south of the lake. There are two Chile National Parks close by: the Huerquehue and the Villarrica. Huerquehue National Park is located in the foothills of the Andes, in the Valdivian temperate rainforest of the La Araucanía region in southern Chile. It lies 145 km southeast of Temuco and 33 km east of Pucón, between the Villarrica National Reserve to the west and the Hualalafquén National Reserve to the east. The park encompasses 125 square kilometres of mountainous terrain east of Caburgua Lake, and has an elevation range of 720 to 2,000 m asl.The national park was created on June 9, 1967 in order to protect the area. 10. Lake Caburga Pucon
Caburgua Lake is located 23 km northeast of the city of Pucón, in the La Araucanía Region of Chile. Huerquehue National Park lies to the east of the lake. Like Villarrica Lake, it is part of Toltén River basin. During summer the outflow river may dry out but due to high levels of underground infiltration the waterfalls Ojos del Caburgua never run dry. The lake occupies a glacial valley carved out along the Liquiñe-Ofqui Fault. In the Holocene the valley was blocked by lava flows from the Volcanes de Caburgua.The lake has recently gained notoriety for the holiday residences of people like Sebastián Piñera and President Michelle Bachelet.

Conguillío National Park is located in the Andes, in the provinces of Cautín and Malleco, in the Araucanía Region of Chile also known as Region IX. Its name derives from the Mapuche word for water with Araucaria seeds. Among the attractions in the park are the Llaima volcano, Sierra Nevada and wild landscapes characterized by islands of vegetation completely surrounded by vast areas of lava flows. Extensive forests, formed mainly by Araucarias and Nothofagus species, and small lakes increase the scenic beauty of the park. It is also known as Los Paraguas , due to the shape of the Monkey Puzzle trees. The park was used as filming location for Walking with Dinosaurs, a television series produced by the BBC.

Camino Reigolil - Curarrehue

El equipo de estudiantes de pregrado de la Universidad de La Frontera ARAUCANÍA SIN FRONTERAS (ASF), en el marco del desarrollo de su proyecto FDI para la difusión del Turismo Mapuche en La Araucanía, Chile, realizó una nueva visita a la zona lacustre de la Región de La Araucanía, documentando el viaje con imágenes y videos de distintas pueblos y localidades como la ruta Villarrica-Licán Ray y Curarrehue.
