Our Discover the North tour of Ireland took place in May of 2014. This video is a recap of the tour - Thin places, mystical sites, vibrant towns, warm friendships and lots of fun.

We covered 39 sites in 10 counties in 10 days putting almost 1000 miles on the bus. This 5 minute video gives a condensed (very condensed) view of our travels.

It features almost all of the sites we toured - Altadaven Forest, Caldragh Cemetery, megaliths in Sligo, Inishowen Peninsula, the City of Derry, Beltany Stone Circle, Grianan of Aileach, Beaghmore Stone Circle, Ardboe Church and Cross on Lough Neagh, Belfast, the Giant's Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Dark Hedges, Whitepark Bay, Loughcrew and St. Brigid's Shrine in Faughart.

Sawel Mountain is a mountain in County Londonderry and County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is the highest peak in the Sperrin Mountains, and the 8th highest in Northern Ireland.

From the ice age to the chippy: The Lough Neagh Pollan

Around world there is an exclusive list of rare and most sought after foods that include meats, spices, fungi, fish eggs, melons, chocolate, saliva, yes, you heard me right, saliva, and even precious metals.
If you live around the shores of Lough Neagh your staple diet probably consisted of the famous Lough Neagh eel but a trip to a local chip shop located in Toome will allow you to order another species of fish that has graced our local pallets and is one that has survived the last ice age; the Lough Neagh Pollan. It is species that is so important scientists believe it could help unlock the secrets of our continued global battle with climate change.
The fish is a glacial relict of an Alaskan-Siberian whitefish species and is not found anywhere in Western Europe outside of Ireland. Although they are found in 4 other locations in Ireland they are known to be extinct or in serious decline in those areas. The only remaining abundant population of Pollan is in Lough Neagh.
