The city is located on the left bank of the Paraguay River, almost at the confluence of this river with the River Pilcomayo, on the South American continent. The Paraguay River and the Bay of Asunción in the northwest separate the city from the Occidental Region of Paraguay and Argentina in the south part of the city. The rest of the city is surrounded by the Central Department. The city is an autonomous capital district, not a part of any department.   • 1. Estadio Manuel Ferreira Asuncion
    The Estadio Manuel Ferreira, is a football stadium in Asunción, Paraguay. It is the home venue of Club Olimpia and is named after former club president Manuel Ferreira Sosa. The stadium was opened in May 1964 with a friendly match between Olimpia and the powerful Santos FC of Brazil, which had the great Pelé in its team. The excitement to see Pelé playing was so big that the stadium's capacity was exceeded. Because of that during the game one of the fences supporting the crowd in the stands broke and many were injured. As soon as the incident happened, Pelé ran and jumped over the fence to help the injured people. Only minor injuries occurred and the match proceeded, ending in a 2-2 draw.     Estadio General Pablo Rojas is a football stadium in the neighbourhood of Barrio Obrero in Asunción, Paraguay. It is the home venue of Cerro Porteño. The stadium is named after former club president Pablo Rojas. This stadium was used during the 1999 Copa América, hosting games by Uruguay and Colombia. Since 2015, the stadium is undergoing expansion and remodeling works in order to increase its capacity to 45,000 people.

    The Estadio Feliciano Cáceres, is a football stadium in the city of Luque, Paraguay. It is the home venue of Sportivo Luqueño and is named after former club president Feliciano Cáceres. The old stadium was torn down and this stadium was built for use in the 1999 Copa América. The stadium hosted games played by Uruguay, Colombia, Argentina and Ecuador.
