The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is a Foundation under public law. It is a centre of research, teaching and experimental design. The Foundation in its current form was founded by the German Federal Government, the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the town Dessau in 1994. It is based in the historical Bauhaus Building in Dessau-Roßlau. The Foundation’s staff with about 60 employees includes architects, town planners, sociologists, cultural scientists, artists and art historians.

Prisoners from all over Europe and the Soviet Union—Jews, Poles and other Slavs, the mentally ill and physically-disabled from birth defects, religious and political prisoners, Roma and Sinti, Freemasons, Jehovah's Witnesses , criminals, homosexuals, and prisoners of war—worked primarily as forced labor in local armaments factories. Bedeutende Künstler und Gelehrte der Zeit gaben sich ein Stelldichein: Christian Fürchtegott Gellert, Johann Christoph Gottsched, Christoph Martin Wieland, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, Richard Wagner. Schon 1789 hatte sich hier Friedrich Schiller, mit Charlotte von Lengefeld verlobt.

Lake Garda and Salzburg Areas Summer Vacation (2016)

We spent our summer 2016 vacation in the Lake Garda and Salzburg areas. (We used the Lake Garda area as a midpoint on our way to and from the Salzburg area).

My 7 year old son and I are very active so we look for destinations that will keep us busy. Lake Garda and Salzburg are perfect for this. Actually, I think we only visited Salzburg itself once or twice during our break there. Most of the time we were in the surrounding area (we were actually staying in Germany but it was still only minutes from Salzburg).

I highly recommend these two destinations for anyone with active families: Eagles Nest tour, hiking, mountain biking, explore ice caves, salt mines, zip lining, paragliding and Red Bull Hangar 7. Don't forget to take the kids to Schloss Hellbrunn - bring a towel!
