Baia Sprie is a town in the Maramureş County, northern Romania. The Hungarian version of the town's name means Upper Mine. Baia Sprie is situated at a distance of 9 km from Baia Mare. The town administers three villages: Chiuzbaia , Satu Nou de Sus and Tăuții de Sus . Neighbouring communities are the city of Baia Mare and the villages of Groși, Dumbrăvița, Șisești and Desești. The town was one of the most important mining centers in north-western Romania, exploitation of gold and silver being mentioned in documents written around 1411, the time when the Saxons colonized the region.   • 1. Barsana Monastery Barsana
    Bârsana is a commune in Maramureș County, Romania. It is composed of two villages, Bârsana and Nănești . It also included Oncești village until 2004, when it was split off to form a separate commune. As of 2002, Bârsana had 6,352 inhabitants, all but ten of whom were ethnic Romanians. 86.7% were Romanian Orthodox, 7.8% Greek-Catholic and 3.1% Pentecostal. Bârsana's Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple is one of eight Wooden Churches of Maramureș listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, another wooden monastery was built in Bârsana.
