Bristol is the unofficial capital of the West Country of England. Famous for its maritime history it also offers a great and diverse range of attractions, hotels, bars and events. HISTORY
Bristol was a starting place for early voyages of exploration to the New World. On a ship out of Bristol in 1497 John Cabot, a Venetian, became the first European since the Vikings to land on mainland North America. In 1499 William Weston, a Bristol merchant, was the first Englishman to lead an exploration to North America.
POPULATION
Bristol is the United Kingdom’s eighth most populous city and the most populated city in South West England. Bristol is unusual among major British towns and cities in its larger black than Asian population. 46.8% of Bristol's population identified as Christian and 37.4% said they were not religious and Islam is observed by 5.1% of the population.
CLIMATE
The climate is oceanic milder than most places in England and United Kingdom. Bristol is one of the warmest cities in the UK with a mean annual temperature of approximately 10.5 °C (50.9 °F). The Atlantic Ocean influences Bristol's weather, keeping its average temperature above freezing throughout the year, but winter frosts are frequent and snow occasionally falls from early November to late April. Summers are warm and drier.
TRANSPORT
Bristol Airport is situated a few miles south-west of Bristol city centre and offers direct services to over 125 destinations across Europe. The airport is a major hub for budget airline providers Easyjet and RyanAir.
There is a Flyer bus service which links the airport to the city it is available 24 hours a day, Bristol Temple Meads station is located approximately 15 minutes walk from the city centre and has regular inter-city and regional train services from all major cities.
ECONOMY
Bristol has a long history of trade, originally exporting wool cloth and importing fish, wine, grain and dairy products. Bristol's modern economy is built on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, and the city-centre docks have been redeveloped as centres of heritage and culture. Bristol was surpassed by the rapid rise of Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool in the Industrial Revolution.
TOURISM
It's one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the South of England, hosting a wide variety of visual arts, theatre, speciality shopping and live music. Bristol also won the EU's European Green Capital Award in 2015. Bristol is often described, by its inhabitants, as being built on seven hills.

Natural and human history museum as well as the British Columbia Provincial Archives. Founded in 1886. Includes three permanent galleries: modern history, natural history, and local First Nations’ history. The museum’s collections comprise approximately 7 million objects.

It was named after HMS Fisgard, a British Navy ship that spent time in the Pacific. Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1958. Also a Classified Federal Heritage Building.
08. British Columbia Aviation Museum
The Museum consists of a display area spread over two hangars, a classroom, a restoration workshop and a gift shop. Displays include historical civilian and military artefacts including uniforms, medals and models. Located in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. It is on the grounds of the Victoria International Airport.
09. Thunderbird Park
A park in Victoria next to the Royal British Columbia Museum. Home to many totem poles (mostly Gitxsan, Haida, and Kwakwaka'wakw) and other First Nation monuments. Totem poles were first erected on the site in 1940 as part of a conservation effort to preserve some of the region's rapidly deteriorating Aboriginal art.

Visit Historic Harwich, England
Historic Harwich, possibly the most hospitable town in England. On our recent trip, several members of The Harwich Society greeted us at the train station. Peter Chandler, Harwich Society tour guide, gave us a walking tour of many of the town's historical sites. Next, Ray Plummer, archivist, showed us the old jail and provided much history of it. Finally, Dave McLeod, Mayor of Harwich, and many town officials greeted us in the Guildhall with tea and much hospitality. Indeed, our visit to Harwich was the highlight of our cruise vacation. Billericay is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Basildon, Essex, England. Billericay lies within the London Basin and constitutes a commuter town 28 miles east of central London. The town has three secondary schools and a variety of open spaces.
Billericay is within the London Basin and lies on a mixture of London clay, Claygate Beds and Bagshot Beds. Near the High Street, there is a change in soil type from sandy to clay, which gives rise to local underground springs. Open spaces include Norsey Wood, Mill Meadows Nature Reserve, Queen's Park Country Park, Sun Corner, Lake Meadows, Hanningfield Reservoir and South Green. Billericay contains Billericay School, Mayflower High School and St John's School.
Mill Meadows is a 90 local Nature Reserve near the centre of Billericay one of the finest ancient meadow systems in Essex. Centuries of grazing have created the ideal conditions for a wonderful diversity of wild flowers, fungi, insects and invertebrates, many of which are very rare.
Billericay is a part of the London commuter belt. It is served by Billericay railway station on the Abellio Greater Anglia route from Liverpool Street station, in the City of London, to Southend. The station connects to local bus routes. Billericay is close to two primary routes: the A12 to the north and the A127 in the south. The A176 provides a road link to Basildon to the south of Billericay, as well as to the A127. The only secondary road in the town, the B1007, passes from just south of the town centre as Laindon Road, meets the A129 at Sun Corner and then continues northwards as Billericay's High Street and then Stock Road. It continues north to the county town of Chelmsford. Along its route is the village of Stock and an interchange to the A12. The town is a destination on the A129, linking it to the neighbouring towns of Brentwood and Wickford.
Billericay is served by a community radio station, Phoenix FM, which is based in Brentwood. The town was immortalised in the Ian Dury and the Blockheads song Billericay Dickie. Billericay is mentioned in George Orwell's novel Down and Out in Paris and London. Billericay is the setting of the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey as the home of Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) and his parents; however, the actual filming took place in Wales. The Cater Museum is a privately owned local history museum housed in an 18th & 19th century building in the High Street.
