Ascension Day Fun Buitenpost & Eenrum (5.17.12 - Day 686)
To commemmorate our Ascension Day route of the 1990s, Carnamom and I decided to drive the same route today to see what it looks like nowadays.
After leaving HQ with Chibi and having a flat tire along the way, a quick stop over was made at the Afsluitdijk to see the IJsselmeer, then onward to pick up Carnamom from her house.
After a while of driving through the Frisian woodlands of De Wâlden, we ended up at the flea market in Buitenpost. We spent a couple of hours, then continued to the province of Groningen, to a village called Eenrum, where a large year market (locally known as a Braderie) was taking place. Checked that, then had a couple of drinks at the terrace of the local mustard factory, a small operation run from a windmill, then casually strolled through the village some more.
When leaving Eenrum we drove back to Buitenpost to have the infamous local pizza specialty at italian Pizzeria San Marino, right by Café The Point, where chef Salvadori made us the delicious pizzas we've come to love.
Then it was time to take Carnamom home and arrive back at HQ with Chibi on the brink of midnight.

Frisian Christmas Eve (12.24.11 - Day 541)
This Christmas Eve I visited Leeuwarden. But before that I found several more Xmas cards. Awesome!! After a nice drive I visited Carnamom and her husband and presented them with a little Christmas tree. Then I visited my granny and uncle, presented them with a similar mini xmas tree. At Diogenes a tour of his vintage radio collection. Then we head down to the Zuiderburen neighborhood of Leeuwarden where the Coca Cola Christmas Truck was set up. This was a bit disappointing but furtunately a good opportunity to get some last minute Xmas groceries. Then we set out to have Christmas Eve dinner, at Pizzeria San Marino in Buitenpost. It was Diogenes' first visit to that restaurant but I have been there more than often with Carnamom over the last decade. As was to be expected, the dinner was excellent and after being at Diogenes' place for a couple more hours it was time to head back to HQ.
In the bonus footage, I got a Red Bull at a BP fuelstation. Enjoy watching!

Nederland FIERLJEPPEN
Fierljeppen is a traditional sport of the Frisians and of the Dutch, and one of the more complex athletic sports known to date. Ljeppen is West Frisian for to leap. It is a fine example of the close relationship between the Frisian and English languages.

Today the sport is primarily practiced for fun or to entertain tourists, but there still is an official annual National Fierljepping Manifestation (NFM) in the Netherlands, and championships are contested in six leagues and numerous clubs.
