Lonar lake...An ancient mythological crater lake of India
The Lonar crater is the world's only salt water lake in basaltic rock, believed to have been caused by a meteorite hitting Earth around 52,000 years ago. It is surrounded by forests with a large variety of birds, particularly peacocks, owls, red-wattled lapwings and ducks.
Lonar has its own ecological system. As the sun sets, the entire lake appears differently. The lake water sweeps across the shore like sea water, and the birds, wolves, peacocks and other creatures start making their presence felt. It is a wonderful scene to watch the sun rising or setting below the lake walls. The lake has a remarkable presence of splinters of glass confirming the meteorite's impact, which caused the enormous temperature rise thereby turning the sand into glass.
Numerous temples surround the lake, around the rim of the crater and further down around the lake, most of which stand in ruins today, except for the temple of Daitya Sudan at the centre of the Lonar town, which was built in honour of Vishnu's victory over the giant Lonasur. It is a fine example of early Hindu architecture. Vishnumandir, Wagh Mahadev, Mora Mahadev, Munglyacha Mandir and Goddess Kamalaja Devia are the other temples found inside the crater.
The nearest train stations are Shegaon near Khamgaon and Malkapur near Bhusawal railway-junction, on the Mumbai-Bhusawal-Nagpur route of Central Railway of Indian Railways and is around 100 km from Lonar. Buses also run to Lonar from Nagpur, Akola, Buldhana, Malkapur and Jalna.
If travelling from Nagpur, one must take a bus till Mehkar near Washim and then head to Lonar. From Mumbai or Pune, the most convenient route is to first reach Aurangabad via bus (Mumbai and Pune) or train/flight (from Mumbai only) and then take a state transport bus to Lonar. From Pune, air-conditioned and regular buses run every hour from the Shivajinagar bus stand to Aurangabad.
Maharashtra Tourism runs a resort just 50 meters from the lake. This property is modern, well maintained and cheap. There also are several low cost and simple accommodations called lodges available in the town.
The food available in Lonar has influence from both Khandesh and Marathwada cuisines. It is unique and simple but spicy.

Temples of Satgaon Bhusari - Buldhana (Maharashtra)
Satgaon Bhusari village in Chikhli tahsil situated 10 miles to the south of district Buldhana (Maharashtra). There are ruins of temples of the 12th to 14th centuries, showing the existence of Jainism side by side with Brahmanism in ancient times.Temples are all in a dilapidated state, one of them being a total wreck. The principal temple is that of Vishnu to the west of the village. It is somewhat peculiarly built in that it faces the west instead of the east as usual. The image of Vishnu is broken and lost, leaving only his feet above the figure of Garuda. The ceilings of the mandapa and the exterior walls of the shrine are well decorated. At a short distance behind the Vishnu temple is a remnant of a small temple of Mahadev, which is in a very ruined condition; the entrance to it is from the east side. Inside the temple there is a linga and outside the Nandi and the door is elaborately carved with figures of Ganesh, Vaishnavi, Brahmi and Parvati. It is, however, noticeable that there are only figures of goddesses to be seen there. The third Hindu temple is to the north of the Vishnu temple is locally called as Sita Temple/Sita Nhani. Some fragments of old Jain images are seen, placed near these temples. These temples are supposed to have been constructed during the reign of the Later Chalukyas.
Unapdev, a beautiful picnic spot
Unapdev is a place near Sahada in Maharashtra. Its a beautiful picnic spot. Its around 25 kms from Sahada and 50 kms from Toranmal, a lovely hill station. There is a dam near Unapdev from where a beautiful stream flows. There are also some view points around from where dam can be seen.

Kanchani Mahal carries several stories and myths and it is believed that the Queen Kanchani used to live here. Kanchani Mahal is an old building. It is a myth that Queen Kanchani is very egoist & desire to see Lamp of Devi (Lonar) from Mehkar. She built up this Mahal but when she went to terrace of Mahal god curse her, she felt down & become a slab of stone. The aforesaid monument is currently in ruins due to lack of attention from the ASI. However, the story connected to Kanchani mahal seems to be a myth.

Shegaon is located around 300 km west from the city of Nagpur and 550 km east from the city of Mumbai. Shegaon Railway station is located on the Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai line of the Central Railway of Indian Railways. It's a small station with no proper facilities but train stops here due to Gajanan Maharaj Temple. It has direct train connectivity to Mumbai CST, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Secunderabad, Pune, Tatanagar, Ahmedabad, Okha, Kolhapur, Amravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Gondia, Bilaspur, Howrah-Kolkata, Shalimar-Kolkata, Chandrapur, Chennai Central. From Mumbai several trains halt at Shegaon. Prominent being Gitanjali Express, Vidarbha Express, Amravati Superfast Express, Mumbai Howrah mail and express, Sewagram express, Nagpur-Pune express, Navjivan Express, Gondwana Express, Maharashtra Express, Okha-Puri Express and Ltt - Shalimar Exp.[1]
By road it is well connecting by neighbouring cities like Khamgaon, Balapur, Malkapur and Akola which are located on Hajira (Surat)- Dhule - Howrah (Kolkatta) National Highway 6. It is quite close to the industrial cities of Aurangabad and Nagpur.

Shegaon has a tourist attraction called Anand Sagar, an INR 3 billion project.[2][3]
