Thousands of Safety Violations Found in North Carolina
IN MEMORIAM: HAROLD C. CRESWELL, JR.
Harold C. Creswell, Jr., who retired from Haughton Elevator in Toledo, Ohio, in 1989 as vice president of Manufacturing, passed away on February 5 at the age of 84. Creswell was a U.S. Marine who fought in the Korean War. Despite lacking a high-school diploma, he worked his way up at Haughton from floor sweeper to the vice president position. He spent 38 years with the company, retiring after it had been acquired by Schindler and manufacturing moved from Toledo. Creswell is survived by his wife, Donnajean; sons, Jeff, Mike and Cris; daughters Susan and Cathy; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Church of St. Andrew United Methodist or Faith Community United Church of Christ.
THOUSANDS OF ELEVATOR-SAFETY VIOLATIONS IN N.C. COUNTY
A Channel 9 Eyewitness News investigation of the nearly 5,000 elevators in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, where Charlotte is located, found thousands of elevators with at least one safety violation and several with issues so severe that the state threatened to shut them down. Further, emergency responders performed 325 rescues of entrapped passengers in the county in 2015. The state has six elevator inspectors, and each unit is inspected once a year before being issued a certificate of operation. Unsafe elevators do not receive certificates, the state inspector said.

Cape Lookout Kayak Camping
A 3-day kayak camping trip to Cape Lookout National Seashore, North Carolina which consists of about 50 miles of mostly pristine barrier islands. We were scoping out this area for a possible club trip in 2014.
We stayed entirely in the southern end which includes the cape itself with it's historic lighthouse and coast guard station. The weather was a bit challenging with lots of wind and rain, but it was a worthwhile trip non-the-less.
Shot entirely with an Olympus TG-1 waterproof pocket camera, but forgot to activate the Steady Shot feature, which would have been very helpful on a rolling kayak.
Return to Cape Lookout with the most trucks yet
Cape Lookout overland style camping on the beach, with fishing, frying, the lighthouse, sunrises and sunsets, and exploration of the point. It was an awesome time for everyone!
