Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand and the third most populous city of the state. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas.

Massanjore Dam: The Colossal Dam, Dumka by Tourist Destination
Massanjore dam, across the Mayurakshi River, is in Dumka district of Jharkhand State, India.
Built with Canadian aid, it is also called Canada Dam or Pearson Dam. It was commissioned in 1956. It was formally inaugurated by Lester B. Pearson, Foreign Minister of Canada. Massanjore
dam is about 31 km from Dumka in Jharkhand and is about 35 km from Siuri in West Bengal. It
is on the Siuri-Dumka road. The Mayurakshi River at the dam site has a catchment area of 1869
sq.km. The dam is 155 feet high from its base and is 2170 feet long. The reservoir has an area of
67.4 square kilometers. When full and has a storage capacity of 620,000,000 cubic metres. Though located in Dumka district of Jharkhand, the dam is under the jurisdiction of West Bengal irrigation department. The colossal dam of the Mayurakshi River and the immense water body has made Massanjore an ideal tourist spot. It is perfect for enjoying a weekend tour. The place is just amazing. Explore the exquisite natural surroundings of Massanjore by enjoying a leisurely walk throughout the region. The broad river, mountains, proper Jharkhand gives its identity everywhere. Chandil is a census town in Seraikela Kharsawan district in the state of Jharkhand, India. The first commercial sponge iron plant in India is located at Umesh Nagar in Chandil.
The natural scenery in and around Chandil is unique and enchanting. It is surrounded by green mountains, hills, streams, rivers, the peace, pleasure and knowledge providing gifts of God, the Almighty on all sides.
It plays a vital role for the people of all the four blocks, including itself - Chandil, Ichagarh, Nimdih and Kukru. It has a college, polytechnic institute, railway junction, telephone exchange and sub-divisional office. It is accessible to people because of the availability of communicational facilities here. The N.H.-33 and N.H.-32 pass through this town, leading to Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Chaibasa, Odisha and West Bengal respectively.
The multi-purpose chandil dam was built across the meeting place of both the rivers. The dam is 220 meter in height and the height of its water level is 190 meter from different places tourists coming from different parts of the country enjoy boating and the natural beauty in and around the dam.Chandil is famous for its importance in the field of tourism. The River Swarnarekha flows through this region. The Karkori River originating from the Hundru falls mingles with the Swarnarekha River here at chandil.
Best time to visit November to February.The dam with a vast water reservoir, is a great place to spend a winter afternoon.The serene ambience by the still waters becomes suddenly alive with the cacophony of a wide variety of chirping birds. The lake is often intercepted by a whizzing speed boat or by a lazy shikara.

Gangotri - Gaumukh : Uttarakhand
Gangotri is a pilgrimage situated in the Uttarakhand. Gaumukh is the place from where the Ganga is originated.
We went on last week of MAY 2015.
How to reach Gaumukh:-
Rishikesh - Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Chirbasa - Bhojbasa - Gaumukh.
We started our trek from Gangotri at 8 a.m. The total trek is about 18 km or little more. It took 3.5 hrs of continuous trekking to reach chirbasa and further 3 hrs to reach Bhojbasa.
We took our second stop at Bhojbasa. There we stayed at lal baba ashram. GMVN rest house is also available at bhojbasa. If you got camping gears such as tent, sleeping bag etc it would be helpful.
Next morning we began our trek to Gaumukh which was just about 4 km. and we reached at Gaumukh within 2.5 hrs. On the same day we returned back to Gangotri.
