Chamba is a town in the Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh, in northern India. According to the 2001 Indian census the town is situated on the banks of the Ravi River , at its confluence with the Sal River. Chambial were the Rulers of Chamba State Chambials use suffix Varmans. Though historical records date the history of the Chamba region to the Kolian tribes in the 2nd century BC, the area was formally ruled by the Maru dynasty, starting with the Raju Maru from around 500 AD, ruling from the ancient capital of Bharmour, which is located 65 kilometres from the town of Chamba.   • 2. Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary Bharmour
    Kugti Sanctuary is the second largest sanctuary in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Its situated at an altitude ranging from 2,195 m to 5,040 m. On the west side, Tundah Sanctuary surrounds this sanctuary by a forest corridor. The landscape of the sanctuary varies, and it is blessed with abundance of flora and fauna. The area houses a number of medicinal plants along with some of the rare floral species. High altitude Himalayan fauna species have made this sanctuary their home, including the endangered Himalayan tahr. There are plenty of water resources here and many of them originate from the glaciers. Kugti Wildlife Sanctuary also houses the famous Manimahesh Temple that is annually visited by thousands of pilgrims.

  • 3. Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary Chamba
    Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is a 30.69 km² animal sanctuary at Kalatop and Khajjiar in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The sanctuary area is well laid out for trekking trails both at Kalatop and Khajjiar. There is a dense deodar and fir forest covering 19.63 km² of the sanctuary, which is about 6 km from Dalhousie. Pheasants, serow and black bear are some of the common animals found here. The sanctuary lies in the path of the Ravi River, and is surrounded by coniferous and oak forests. Latitudinal range- 32°02´ to 32°04´ N Longitudinal range- 76°01´ to 76°06´E Nearest rail gauge- Pathankot . Altitude- 1185 to 2768 m Temperature- 10 to 35 °C Mean annual rainfall- 672.3 mm.
