1. Cobscook Bay State ParkDennysville Cobscook Bay State Park is a public recreation area occupying 888 acres on the western shore of Cobscook Bay in Washington County, Maine. The park offers a view of dramatically changing tides that on average can rise to 24 feet high with some reaching as high as 28 feet . The name Cobscook is a Maliseet-Passamaquoddy word for boiling tides. The state park is located on Whiting Bay approximately 6 miles south of Dennysville and 6 miles north of Whiting. 2. Quoddy Head State ParkLubec West Quoddy Head, in Quoddy Head State Park, Lubec, Maine, is the easternmost point of the contiguous United States. Since 1808, there has been a lighthouse there to guide ships through the Quoddy Narrows. The current one, with distinctive red-and-white stripes, was built in 1858, and is an active aid to navigation. Photographs and paintings of this lighthouse are frequently reproduced. The 3rd order Fresnel lens is the only 3rd order and one of only eight Fresnel lenses still in use on the Maine Coast.The light station was added to the National Register of Historic Places as West Quoddy Head Light Station on July 4, 1980. Aerial - Reversing Falls Park - Pembroke Maine
PEMBROKE, Maine - A curious Hawk came out of nowhere at Reversing Falls Park (a municipal nature park) in Pembroke, Maine. Exploring in our Jeep Wrangler we followed the Leighton Point Road to Mahar Point. The falls are at the northern point of a narrows separating Dennys Bay from Cobscook Bay in far eastern Maine. We found deer, seals, hawks and much more on our day trip.
The narrows are subject to a reversal of current twice a day, due to the area's unusually high tides in the Bay of Fundy region. The park is also well suited for wildlife viewing as many migratory birds pass through this park.
The area in the park vicinity is also archaeologically sensitive, as the site of Native American settlements in the area's prehistory.
Sunday afternoon in Eastport, Maine
Eastport, Maine is about 45 mins / 30 miles from my home. It makes for a nice little drive. We love being Tourist in our own Home Area. People tend to overlook the things like this in their own backyard. We embrace it. The Food was great and the steamers were as fresh as you can get. The Eastport Chowder House, Rosie's Hot dogs, and The new Bakery are all easily recommendable.
