Doirani is a town and former municipality in the Kilkis regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kilkis, of which it is a municipal unit. It is situated on the shores of Doiran Lake, which marks the border between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia. The municipal unit has an area of 81.213 km2. It had a population of 1,404 according to the 2011 census. It is the Greek part of the former municipality of Doyuran, which was divided in 1913 by the new borders created between Greece and what was then Serbia.     Doiran Lake , also spelled Dojran Lake is a lake with an area of 43.1 km2 shared between the Republic of Macedonia and Greece . To the west is the city of Nov Dojran , to the east the village of Mouries, to the north the mountain Belasica/Beles and to the south the Greek town of Doirani. The lake has a rounded shape, a maximum depth of 10 m and a north-to-south length of 8.9 km and is 7.1 km at its widest, making it the third largest lake partially in the Republic of Macedonia after Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. The lake was on the southern line of the Macedonian front during World War I, and its southern shore became the site of the various battles between allied troops and Bulgarian troops in 1916, 1917 and 1918.     Skra , before 1926 Loumitsa is a village of a Vlach community in the municipality of Paionia, Kilkis regional unit of Greece. In 2011 the population was 187 for the village, and 234 for the community, including the village Koupa. It is situated 10 km south of the border with the Republic of Macedonia and its altitude is 548 m. The village is best known for the Battle of Skra-di-Legen of May 1918. The village has a monument and museum dedicated to the battle. Before the First World War, the village was much larger and inhabited mainly by Megleno-Romanians. According to the book Macedonia — ethnography and statistics by Vasil Kanchov, there were 2,600 Megleno-Romanian inhabitants in the village in 1900.
