East Godavari district or Toorpu Godavari jilla is a district in Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its district headquarters is at Kakinada. As of Census 2011, it became the most populous district of the state with a population of 5,151,549. Rajahmundry and Kakinada are the two largest cities in the Godavari districts in terms of population. The district of Rajahmundry was reorganised in 1859 into two districts of Godavari and Krishna. Godavari District was further bifurcated into East and West Godavari districts in 1925.     The Godavari Bridge or Kovvur–Rajahmundry Bridge is truss bridge spanning Godavari River in Rajahmundry, India. It is Asia's third longest road-cum-rail bridge crossing a water body, after the Digha–Sonpur rail–road bridge in Patna, Bihar, India and Sky Gate Bridge R in Kansai International Airport, Osaka. It is second of the three bridges that span the Godavari River at Rajahmundry. The Havelock Bridge being the earliest, was built in 1897, and having served its full utility, was decommissioned in 1997.
