West Malling is a historic market town in the Tonbridge and Malling district of Kent, England. It has a population of about 2,500 to 5,000. West Malling contains several historic buildings, including St Leonard's Tower, a Norman keep built by Bishop Gundulf (bishop between 1077 and 1108). He also built the White Tower of the Tower of London, the castles of Rochester and Colchester, and the Priory and Cathedral of Rochester. In c.1090 Gundulf founded St. Mary's Abbey in West Malling for Benedictine nuns. This historic site contains significant buildings from the Norman, medieval, Tudor and Georgian eras. There is also a Grade II* Listed 1966 abbey church which is used by the Anglican Benedictine nuns who have made Malling Abbey their home since 1916.
Other buildings of interest in West Malling include the Prior's House, once a residence for those with leprosy; Ford House, over 600 years old; a mainly Georgian High Street; the Swan Hotel, an 18th-century coaching inn (Grade II listed), and Went House, built c.1720 and noted for its elegant brickwork. Manor Park Country Park is just to the south of the town, close to St Leonard's Tower and Douce's Manor, whose grounds the park once comprised.
This new parish is a mixed residential housing estate and commercial development formed from parts of West Malling, Mereworth, East Malling and Wateringbury. The 2004 Wealth of the Nation report lists Kings Hill as having the highest average income and the highest proportion of households earning more than £100,000 per annum in Great Britain.
West Malling is some 35 miles (56 km) from central London, next to the main road between London and the coastal ferry ports of Folkestone and Dover and with good links by road and rail; the area has become a popular commuter location. Originally established on the main road to London from the coast, West Malling is about a mile (1½ km) from Junction 4 of the M20, and from Junction 2 of the M26 which leads on to the M25, encircling London.
West Malling station, situated on the outskirts of the town, provides a regular service, operated by Southeastern Trains, up to Victoria, and down to Maidstone and Ashford. Journeys into London take around one hour. Direct services to London Bridge and Cannon Street were withdrawn in December 2009. With the recent development of Kings Hill, the station was renamed West Malling for Kings Hill, and in 2007 road access was provided from the West Malling bypass, taking commuter traffic away from the High Street.

Tonbridge is a market town in the English county of Kent. Tonbridge is located on the River Medway, approximately 4 miles north of Royal Tunbridge Wells, 12 miles south west of Maidstone and 29 miles (47 km) south east of London. Tonbridge belongs to the administrative borough of Tonbridge and Malling.
Tonbridge stands on spur of higher land where the marshy River Medway could be more easily forded. Ancient trackways converged at this point. Tonbridge Castle was built here in the 11th century by Richard Fitz Gilbert. In medieval times, Tonbridge was considered an important strategic settlement. The King intended it to be a walled town, and a charter was issued allowing for walls to be built.
Tonbridge School, the famous public school, was established in 1552 under letters patent of Edward VI, to educate the sons of local gentry and farmers (There was already a nearby school in existence for poorer boys, now Sevenoaks School.). During Queen Mary's reign Tonbridge was involved in an unsuccessful uprising against the Queen's marriage to the King of Spain
Major industries include light engineering, printing and publishing, distribution and financial services. Tonbridge, together with its neighbour Tunbridge Wells, has been designated by the South East Assembly as a Regional Hub.
Tonbridge railway station is one of Kent's busiest with 4.1 million passengers using it each year. It is an important railway junction with lines to London, Ashford, Hastings and Redhill. The town is also served by the A21 trunk road between London and Hastings and the A26 between Maidstone and Brighton. It is also close to the M25 motorway. Tonbridge is served by numerous bus routes, most of which are run by Arriva Southern Counties.

ckfield is a town in the Wealden District of East Sussex in South East England. The town is on the River Uck, one of the tributaries of the River Ouse, on the southern edge of the Weald. The first mention in historical documents is in the late thirteenth century. Uckfield developed as a stopping-off point on the pilgrimage route between Canterbury, Chichester and Lewes. The settlement began to develop around the bridging point of the river, including the locally-famous Pudding Cake Lane where travellers visited a public house for slices of pudding cake; and the 15th-century Bridge Cottage, the oldest house still standing in Uckfield, now a museum. The town developed in the High Street and in the New Town areas (the latter to the south of the original town centre).
Church Street was at the heart of the original settlement of Uckfield, near the medieval chapel (built c.1291), which was replaced by the present parish church in 1839. Situated on an ancient ridgeway route from the direction of Winchester in the west to Rye and Canterbury in the east, it would have seen many travellers well before 1500. Some would have been on short journeys, either on foot or on horseback, to or from local markets and fairs, but others, bound for destinations further afield, would have spent the night at local hostelries along their route such as the Maiden's Head, the King's Head (now the Cinque Ports) or the Spread Eagle. Since Uckfield was part of the Archbishop's extensive Manor of South Malling, some of these travellers could have been bound for Canterbury for business or other (e.g. religious) reasons, though others had destinations elsewhere along the route.
The town of Uckfield has grown up as a road hub, and on the crossing point of the River Uck. Traffic on the A26 between Tunbridge Wells and Lewes, from the north-east to the south-west, joins with that on the A22 London – Eastbourne road around the town on its bypass; whilst the long-distance cross-country A272 road (the old pilgrimage route) crosses them both north of the town. As the town has grown, new housing estates were developed: Hempstead Fields, Harlands Farm, Rocks Park, West Park, Manor Park and Ringles Cross among them.
Parts of Uckfield, owing to its location on the river, have been subject to extensive flooding on a number of occasions, the earliest recorded being in 1852. More recent floods have occurred approximately every nine years: in 1962, 1974, 1989, 1994, 2000 and 2007, although those in 2007 were not as severe as previous floods. Local residents have long been lobbying for flood defences in the town, and recently when the local Somerfield became a Co-op, its car park's walls were rebuilt as flood defences with a ramp to access the car park and a watertight pedestrian gate that can be closed when flooding is imminent. It is hoped that this new wall will act as a reservoir to contain the flood water until it recedes, allowing the water to flow back into the river Uck, which runs alongside the carpark.
Uckfield is connected to London Bridge station by Southern rail services on its Oxted Line via East Croydon. Until 1969 the rail link continued to Lewes; after it was closed Uckfield became the terminus; the station building was rebuilt in 1991 to allow the removal of a level crossing. The Wealden Line Campaign hopes to reopen the closed section to Lewes. There are 20 local bus services in the Uckfield area; Brighton And Hove, CTLA, Renown Coaches, The Sussex Bus, Seaford & District and Stagecoach in Eastbourne all serve Uckfield. National Express coaches also operate to London.

HITLERS TERRIBLE TOWER - Giant World War 2 Anti Aircraft Flak Tower
World War 2 was a dark time for the planet. Racism was rampant, and people were being killed. This tower is one of the 8 complexes that Hitler had constructed to help protect major cities against and allied air attack during world war two. The Flakturms were extremely effective. The Dooars are the alluvial floodplains in northeastern India that lie south of the outer foothills of the Himalayas and north of the Brahmaputra River basin. This region is about 30 km wide and stretches over about 350 km from the Teesta River in West Bengal to the Dhanshiri River in Assam. The region forms the gateway to Bhutan. It is part of the Terai-Duar savanna and grasslands ecoregion.
Dooars means 'doors' in Assamese, Bengali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Magahi and Telugu languages. There are 18 passages or gateways between the hills in Bhutan and the plains in India. Dooars is analogous with the Terai in northern India and Nepal.

A682 road - the worst street in the UK
A682 Route 13 located between the intersection of the M65 and Long preston, is regarded as the worst street in the UK. There have been more than 100 accidents during the last 10 years. Even the lines along the 22 miles to the north Yorkshire is already consuming 22 fatal accidents in the last 3 years. Still curious to try the cross?
ROB ROY WAY - Part Two
ROB ROY WAY: This video was our Day 2 on the currently unofficial 79-mile Long Distance Footpath that is referred to as the Rob Roy Way, although later in the week there is also an association with our National Bard Robert Burns. From Aberfoyle, this is another 10-mile trek, this time to the popular blue-rinse tourist Highland stop of Callander, a burgh in the region of Stirling, Scotland, situated on the River Teith and often referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands. The River Teith is host to Salmon and Sea Trout fishing and is where Kingfishers, Heron, Swans, Mink and otter can be spotted. It emerges as the Eas Gobhain from Loch Venachar on the Way and flows some 16 miles (26 km) south eastwards past Doune (of Python 'Castle Anthrax' fame) before joining the River Forth 3 miles (5 km) north west of Stirling.
Heading north-eastwards through the Menteith Hills and above Loch Venachar, this section of the (now also partly waymarked) Way is mostly along stony paths or forest tracks complete with styles to negotiate and of course the usual few boggy bits, with the final section into Callander rather unfortunately along a very busy race-track of a minor road. In Callander the converted St.Kessogs church overlooking a paved square across from the 'Trossachs' shop, lies the Rob Roy & Trossachs Visitor Centre, where as well as tourist information services, the Rob Roy exhibition and audio visual show can be viewed.
In hillwalking terms Callander is synonymous with Ben Ledi, both of which achieved prominence during the 1960s as the setting and backdrop for Tannochbrae in the first TV series of Dr. Finlays Casebook. The second series of Dr. Finlay was filmed in Auchtermuchty, perhaps more remembered of late for its mention in the Canadian Millers advert that got banned. As you may just recall the ad featured a Mounty who announced during the first of a two-part advert that he had informed his grandmother that he was going to visit Scotland for which she had given him a fox hat. In the second advert screened just a few minutes later, he proudly announced to his grandmother from a Scottish phone box that he was now in Auchtermuchty, to which she famously replied Wear the fox-hat. It got banned after only a few showings.
Callander's attraction to visitors goes back a long way. The Romans named this place Bochastle when they built a fort beside the River Teith here in the first century AD. Today this episode in Callander's history is marked primarily though the name of the Roman Camp Hotel, near the eastern end of the town. Check the pink Roman Camp building if you ever visit here. The last person to be tried and imprisoned for the crime of Witchcraft in the UK was Helen Duncan from Callander. In 1941 during World War II she held a séance in Portsmouth at which she indicated knowledge that HMS Barham (a Queen Elizabeth-class battleship of the Royal Navy named after Admiral Charles Middleton, 1st Baron Barham, built at the John Brown shipyards in Clydebank and launched in 1914) had been sunk. However, the Admiralty had decided not to inform or rather delay informing the British public of this information (they waited until the following year in 1942), so instead made the initial decision to attempt to discredit her.
Dominating the town to the north are the Callander Crags, a visible part of the Highland Boundary Fault (the geologic fault that traverses Scotland from Arran and Helensburgh on the west coast to Stonehaven in the east).
On this Day Two of the RRW we headed through 'Dounans' school camp, past Aberfoyle Golf Course before entering the Malling Forestry Estate followed by a walk through the Menteith Hills to the hillside wooden picnic bench-set with views over Loch Venachar to Ben Ledi. Lochan Allt a'Chip Dhuibh could be considered the highlight of the day although later that evening reflections in the River Teith were equally impressive. Once the Invertrossachs East Lodge Gateway is reached, theres still a three-mile road walk left to complete, the halfway point of which is denoted by the hump-back bridge that comes into view on your left.
Day three (next video) sees the RRW continue to Strathyre. Wordsworth described Rob in a flattering portrait - Rob Roy The MacGregor: -

A few years after that poem Sir Walter Scott published his novel 'Rob Roy' firmly establishing the Trossachs in literature. Our Day 2 ended at the Bridgend Hotel bar on the Way. We stayed overnight at the central Dreadnought 'Battle Cry' Hotel and visited the Crown Hotel.
