Top 10 Tips to make it as cheap as possible!
Hello riders from around the world, I hope that you are well! Many of you asked me how I can afford to travel so much with my motorcycle? In this video I will give you 10 tips to make it as cheap as possible.
As usual, many people include some experience riders will advice you that it’s expensive hobby and you need to be rich man to afford it. As you know I never fully agree with anything before I really test it. The price if the trip depends from the destination and from your personal preferences.
Let’s go straight to the tips:
N: 1 – Buy affordable motorcycle.
I said affordable, not exactly cheap, because I still believe that the truth is somewhere between the words top expensive and super cheap. Ok, but someone might say:
“The topic is how to travel cheap, the price of the motorcycle itself it doesn’t matter!”
Sounds like not exactly on the place, but let me explain to you with more details:
- When you have expensive bike you will definitely expensive gear. For example: hard cases, tank bag, windscreen, better seat, tires, spare parts and many more. For new models all of that stuff is overpriced.
- The maintenance of that bike will be double price, because in many cases you will need a proper garage to do it and they charge about 100$ per hour.
- Most of the new and expensive motorcycle use only premium petrol, which usually about 10% expensive.
- From the security point of view in many places around the world you will need garage or paid parking. You cannot just leave it on the street even if you have disc lock or chain.
- Because of the fancy bike you have many of the prices will be higher for you. You will looks like bored millionaire and you cannot blame the people that they will want a piece of you.
On the other hand when you have just a normal looking motorcycle the people will know that you are adventurer and will automatically change their mind. You might disagree with this statement, but it doesn’t matter this is the simple human behaviour.
N: 2 - If you want to travel cheap you will need a tent.
It will be your mobile tent and could save you hundreds of dollars.
N: 3 – Travel as light as possible.
I said this many times, but I will say it again – The weight is always matter!
N: 4 – Reduce the speed.
I don’t have to tell you that when you ride fast your motorcycle consume more petrol. Fast speed also eats the tires much faster than you can even imagine. Again it is not much, but when you add it to the first few points it become a noticeable price.
N: 5 – Buy the food from supermarkets.
Is really depends from your budget, but f you want to do it as cheaper as possible this will help you a lot. The prices in the restaurants and the shops are usually very different
N: 6 – Use hostels instead of hotels.
Even in the hostels you can have a private room, if this is what you looking for, but over there you will be able to cook your food and this will reduce the price significantly
N: 7 – Always stop riding before sunset.
This will help you to have enough time to find a proper place to sleep. In the middle of the night, after all day riding, you will be happy to pay any price just to have bed to sleep. I am talking from my own experience.
N: 8 – Plan a head.
The logistic is something very important. Plan everything ahead. I really respect the people who travel without any preparations, but I prefer to be ready. By doing your route in advance you can minimize the km and time you need to spend on the road.
N: 9 – Prepare the bike before the trip.
Do everything before the trip. Change the tires, oils, filters, bearings, cables, basically you have to change everything what is possible to fail during the trip.
N: 10 – Think out of the box.
Be creative and try to find new solutions for every possible problem you might need to face. Remember: The bike is just a tool, the travel is what really matters!

5 Things That I Wish I Would Have Known When I Started My Motorcycle Trips
I wish I would have known when I started with my trips.
The world is so big, but the time we have on the earth is so little! There are 195 countries in the world at the moment. 195 different prospective, 195 point of views actually it is like 195 different worlds. I don’t know about you, but I always been a curious person. When I was a kid my father bought, for me and my big brother the world atlas. Very expensive hard cover book. I don’t know how much exactly he paid for it, but the price was nothing compare to the priceless information that it provides. I was spending so much time watching this beautiful color pages dreaming that one day I will go there. I always loved Geography and the maps. Even today I have a lot of them at home. When I have nothing to do I just watching it and making some new plans.
N: 1 - There is no proper time.
Many of you thought that this is not the proper time. The trips could wait until I build my house, until my kids finish school, my business get better, I start to earn more money, I had the promised bonus or the new job I was looking for. There are so many reasons or excuses to stop you. So call important things! I will agree with this, but let me ask you something? Are you feels happy with the life you have now? Don’t you want to see the world, to experience something different? If the answer is “Yes, I am happy with the current situation” I perfectly understand and respect that, but if the answer is No, what you waiting for? Proper time – it will never come and your dreams will always stay somewhere in the future.
N: 2 – The most important part of any trip is you.
I constantly repeat this again and again! It is not about the bike, it is not about the gear, it is not about the destination, it is not even about the trip itself! It is all about the experience and the great moments you going to have in that journey. The people that you going to meet, the unforgivable situations and unique views you going to see there. All of these will stuck into your memory and actually will change you forever. Every trip will give you something and you will come home a different, a better person! You will be the better partner, better father or the friend everyone want to have. If this is not a reason to start with the trips as soon as possible I don’t know what would be!
N: 3 – There is no problems only solutions.
Yes, exactly, for every possible problem you will find at least three solutions. There are no such a things like the perfect plan or 100% safety. This is a myth, which one make us to feel better and step into the unknown with more confidence. You can be hit by car going to your safe 9 to 5 job or hit by brick falling down from the construction work when you comeback from supermarket. The truth is that even our normal, everyday activities, could become a real adventure and this is what we are all looking for, is in it?
N: 4 – Plan more time instead of more kilometres.
I wish I would have known when I started. I did so many trips for short time spending less time than I should. This is something you really need to consider when you make your plans. Every day which one you spend on the highways riding to the next point is like zero day unless you are not competitor for Iron buts or something similar. I had some trips that if I have to make it again I will definitely add much more time on it and will try to see as more as possible. This is maybe one of the reasons why I change completely my next trip to India. I will upload detailed video very soon.
N: 5 – I know nothing.
Many riders will consider themselves like the great motorcyclist or important travellers. They believe that that the experience they have will help them in any situation or nothing cannot surprise them. Well… I am here to confess that more I ride better I realize that I know nothing. Every time when I jump on the bike I learn something new. It is like never ending school or forever student.

How to plan a motorcycle trip? 10 Practical Tips!
10 Tips to plan long motorcycle trip. (Must Watch)
1. Free time.
It is obvious that without free time you cannot go anywhere, why I even say that? Because guys the free time you have will tell you where you can go. For example, if you live in West Europe and have only two weeks holiday it will be impossible to ride to Mongolia and back. You can, but you have to ship the bike. If you plan to ride it – no! It will be about 15,000km al together. When you divide it to 14 days it’s more than a 1,000 per day.
2. The right destination.
Where you really want to go? What is the part of the world you want to see? Do not imitate, you are unique person, make your unique trip. Good for one it doesn’t mean that it will be good for you as well! Everybody is different!
3. Do not book in advance.
Well again, it’s really depends from the trip. For example in some destinations like Genua or some other busy sea ports in Europe you really need to book your ferry in advance, but in most of the cases it is not going to be necessary and could be useless, because with motorcycle you never know when and where you will finish the day.
4. Paper map – make the route on the map.
Again about the paper map – I really love them, don’t you think? When I plan my trips I always make the route on the map. There are 3 very good reasons to do it:
- First is to see where I have to ride and to try to remember it in the case I lose it.
- The second is to be able to calculate the km and hours per day.
- Third is to see what is around and what else I can visit until I am there. All of this information will help you to make some changes and plan your route more efficient.
5. Money.
It is really depends from your personal preferences. You can make it very cheap or travel like Arabian sheikh.
6. Plan days off.
This is so important! Plan at least one day off per week, otherwise you will be so exhausted and you cannot really enjoy the trip. In some nice and interesting cities one day is not going to be enough. For example in Samarkand, Uzbekistan was so interesting, there were so many things to see that we stayed two days. Do not forget to include that in your overall mileage calculation.
7. Pack the right gear.
Again make the research before the trip. Do not take the things you might or never use. For example you are not going to need your warm under layers or many clothes in Africa, because it will be hot, but definitely will when you ride into the north. Rain gear is not necessary in the desert, but it is very important in Ireland for example. The same with everything, jacket, pants, tent and many more. All of this will help you to reduce the weight and as you already know the weight is always matter.
8. Chose a proper bike.
For long highway trips a big, powerful and heavy bike is going to be great, but on bad or dirt roads it will be a big challenge. We all know that, but when the trip is mixed, highways and dirt roads, what to do? I will suggest or at least this is what I will do is to prepare the bike for the hardest part of the trip. For example if you have 10,000km trip, but only 1,000km are dirt roads, choose and prepare the bike and the luggage for this 1,000km. It will be ok to ride 9,000km with light bike, but it could be very hard to have 1,000 dirt roads with heavy bike
9. Back up options.
Always be ready with some back up options. Even if you never need it, it will give you some piece of mind and help you to feel much better. This is how our brains work- no exceptions!
10. Sort you things at home.
Family, relations, kids, friends, job. Dot it before you go. Do not even think that you can handle it from a distance! It will be very difficult and almost impossible and definitely will ruin your trip.
