Switzerland Trip November 2018
This was my 6th time visiting Switzerland. In this trip i visited Mt. Rigi (the queen of mountains), Rigi Kulm, Arth-Goldau, Brunnen, Schaffhausen, Stein am Rhein, and Zurich. And for the 6th time, going to Switzerland has been a great experience.

Arth-Goldau, between Lake Zug and Lauerzersee, is the starting point for the ride on the Rigi or for a Lake Zug. On the debris cone of the huge rockfall today is the well-known zoo Goldau. Last but not least Arth-Goldau is an important railway junction on the Gotthard line.

The Rigi Mountain, also known as Queen of the Mountains, offers jaw dropping panoramas of two cantons. This alpine elevation is located in Central Switzerland and it’s surrounded with three lakes – Lakes Lucerne, Zug and Lauerz. The peak, Rigi Kulm, is located at 1,798 meters above sea level and offers amazing views of 13 lakes, nine towns, many mountain summits of the Swiss Alps and even as far as Germany and France on clear days. You can also see plenty of paragliders.
It really is no wonder so many tourists have been coming to Rigi over the past 200 years. Clear alpine air, wide open spaces and walking trails definitely sound appealing. If you ever decide to visit we recommend using the cogwheel train instead of car rentals since parking spots are limited. In fact, Rigi Railways, founded in 1871 is Europe’s oldest mountain railways and also is one of the most reliable.
At the summit there is a restaurant and cafeteria, hiking trails, communications tower and various look out points where visitors can admire the view. There is also a symbolic stone in commemoration of a tie up with a mountain in China.
We went there during the summer and it was really stunning. However, it’s beautiful all year long, even in winter when it becomes a ski destination.

The Swiss town of Arth: between two lakes
Welcome to my comprehensive look at Arth, a Swiss town of 11,000 people on the shores of Lake Zug, in the canton of Schwyz. The town has a beautiful location, being between Lakes Zug and Lauerz, and in almost every view of its streets and buildings there are mountains in the background. As usual in Switzerland, you can get here on public transport by scheduled passenger boat or train from Zurich, Lucerne or Basel, and while there is motor traffic in the town, it is not excessive. There is also a connection here to the “queen of the mountains” cog railway which will take you up the Rigi. Arth is in the heart of Switzerland’s cherry growing area, and kirsch is an important product here.
My film, taken on a sunny day in early spring, shows the beauty of Arth’s lakeside setting, as well as looking at its buildings, ranging from traditional Swiss style architecture to colourful modern designs. It shows a small amount of industry and business, including petrol stations, hotels, restaurants, and a large building site with big cranes working. There are some grand buildings and churches, with apartments on the main streets too. A good place to live!

The Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich (Botanischer Garten der Universität Zürich) is a botanical garden in the Swiss city of Zurich. It was opened in 1977.
Today, around 8,000 plant species are grouped together in thematic biotopes - from the flora of the Mediterranean to the spring garden - in the extensive outdoor area of the park with arboretum, a central pond and in the dome greenhouses with different climatic zones and representative plant species.

Switzerland: SBB, Riding onboard a 1st Class Swiss panoramic coach
Switzerland: SBB, Riding onboard a 1st Class Swiss observation coach just after leaving Olten station (roughly halfway between Luzern & Basel).
The train was IR2314, the 0547 Locarno to Basel hauled by Re 4/4 II (Class 420) electric locos 11143 & 11157. Clip recorded 28th February 2016.
The Re 420, originally (and still widely called) Re 4/4 II, series are the most common electric locomotives of the Swiss Federal Railways. They are used for passenger services throughout Switzerland alone or in pairs. For freight services, they are sometimes paired with the Re 620, especially in mountainous regions. That pairing is referred to by the term Re 10/10. The Re 430, originally known as the Re 4/4 III, are a derivative of the Re 420 modified for higher traction but lower speed. The Re 420 locomotives were produced over a period of 21 years, from 1964 to 1985.
Six Re 4/4 II (11196 to 11201; later 11195 to 11200) were equipped with a wider pantograph wiper in order to conform with DB and ÖBB standards, which allowed these units to operate EuroCity trains over the border to Bregenz and Lindau. These workings are now covered by the last series, 11371 to 11397, which were rebuilt for use in Germany and Austria, not only with a different pantograph but also Indusi and other things necessary for use abroad. These locomotives are classified Re 421 and are lettered for SBB Cargo but also pull passenger trains to Bregenz and Lindau. (11384 was never converted as it was already withdrawn with fire damage)
30 locomotives of the passenger division (11201–11230) will be rebuilt for peak hour services with double deck cars in S-Bahn Zürich, starting in 2011. A consist will be built up by 6 (7 consists) or 10 (6 consists) double deckers plus one locomotive at each end.
On 1 September 1999 locomotives 11101-155, 181, 191–270 and 299–304 were assigned to SBB passenger division, 11156–171, 11173–180, 11182–190, 11271–298, 11305–311, 11313–349 and 11371–397 to freight division (becoming SBB Cargo afterwards). At the end of 2002 11172 ex-MThB joined the passenger fleet, one year later 11225–264 changed to SBB Cargo. At the end of 2004 11225–230 were changed against 11265–270 and six locomotives sold to BLS (see list). One year later 11102–107 followed and were replaced in the passenger fleet by 11156–159, 161 and 164 from SBB Cargo.
