Greater Poland, often known by its Polish name Wielkopolska , is a historical region of west-central Poland. Its chief city is Poznań. The boundaries of Greater Poland have varied somewhat throughout history. Since the Middle Ages, the proper or exact/strict Wielkopolska included the Poznań and Kalisz voivodeships. In the wider sense , it encompassed also Sieradz, Łęczyca, Brześć Kujawski and Inowrocław voivodeships . One another meaning included also Mazovia and Royal Prussia.     In common with other European countries, the most frequent and most popular form of theatre in Poland is dramatic theatre, based on the existence of relatively stable artistic companies. It is above all a theatre of directors, who decide on the form of its productions and the appearance of individual scenes.
