Bermuda is world famous for its pink sand beaches, but for the real experience you have to get off the shore and into the water. One of the best ways to see the island is by small boat. Bermuda is covered with small and large coves, harbours and beaches. Maneuvering around the water is easy by water. You’ll get a firsthand look at the 4,500 marine organisms that make Bermuda home. Being on the water is also the best way to explore the island’s sunken history. The islands are surrounded by five centuries’ worth of shipwrecks. One wreck you don’t want to miss is the HMS Vixen, which you can visit by Jet Ski. You’ll also want to explore the caves of the Admiralty House Cliffs, some of which you can only enter from the water. There are also more than 150 inland caves, such as the subterranean limestone wonderland of the Grotto Bay Beach Resort.
The islands of Bermuda are linked with bridges and causeways, making it seem like one big island. But beyond the beaten path, there are pristine spots like Nonsuch Island, a wildlife sanctuary, accessible only by boat – and you need permission to dock here. Small groups can see and learn about seabirds and the chicks in their nests. Nonsuch’s most special inhabitant is the Cahow, a rare seabird that is the emblem of Bermuda. The bird was thought extinct by 1620, but 330 years later the Cahow was found living on Nonsuch Island. Over the last 70 years, conservationists have worked to bring the number of Cahows from 14 to well over 100.
On land, rent a scooter to see the island up-close-and-personal. Head to the Bermuda Pefumery, where owner/perfumer Isabelle Ramsay Brackstone creates one-of-a-kind scents. She uses Bermuda’s flowers and trees as inspiration. Another unique Bermuda product can be found at Chartwell Apiaries, where beekeeper Randolph Furber keeps about 100 hives. A visit here is a master class in the art of honey production.
You’re going to find a lot of fine dining in Bermuda. But you can also get out and eat like a local. For authentic Bermuda food, come to the Fish Hut in Hamilton, known for its BIG fish sandwich. The island also has a national obsession with fish chowder, which you can try at the Black Horse Tavern. Made with sherry peppers, rockfish and black rum, it’s a delicious combination.
The Royal Naval Cemetary (aka the Glade) has memorials for those who died while serving the British military in Bermuda. La ville de Hamilton est la capitale des Bermudes. Elle possède non seulement une multitude d'hôtels, restaurants et boutiques mais on y retrouve également de nombreux bâtiments historiques, musées, monuments, etc.
La meilleure façon de découvrir cette ville pour en avoir une idée générale est de la parcourir à pied.
Front Street est une des rues les plus fréquentées de Hamilton. Elle est située en bordure de l'eau. La devanture multicolore des commerces ajoute au charme pittoresque de cette ville.
A la jonction de Front Street et Queen Street, il y a une cage métallique appelée Birdcage qui était utilisée autrefois par les policiers pour diriger la circulation.
Le terminal de traversiers est situé à l'extrémité ouest de Front Street. Trois itinéraires sont offerts afin de se déplacer rapidement sur différentes parties de l'île dont la plus éloignée est le port militaire de la Royal Naval (Royal Naval Dockyard).
Tout près du terminal se trouvent deux jolis parcs: Point Pleasant Park et Barr's Bay Park.
Sur la rue Queen, se trouve le bureau de poste de Perot qui a été érigé au XIXe siècle. Ce bâtiment abrite d'ailleurs encore aujourd'hui un bureau de poste.
On y retrouve également de jolis bâtiments colorés dont le Bermudiana Arcade, un centre commercial qui contient des boutiques et des restaurants. A proximité, se trouve même un restaurant Poulet Frit Kentucky (KFC).
Le City Hall and Arts Centre est situé sur Church Street, une artère principale de la ville. Il s'agit d'un immense complexe blanc dont une rose des vents est peinte sur la tour du bâtiment. Il abrite la Galerie nationale des Bermudes qui présente des oeuvres d'art locales et internationales.
Sur Church Street, vous trouverez également Sessions House qui est en fait le parlement. Il a été érigé au début du XIXe siècle. On le reconnaît par sa fameuse tour de l'horloge qui a été construite à la fin du même siècle pour souligner le jubilé d'or de la Reine Victoria.
A l'arrière du parlement, se trouve l'église méthodiste Wesley.

Elle vaut vraiment le détour. Elle possède de beaux vitraux et elle est ornée de belles sculptures.
A la jonction de Court Street et Victoria Street se trouve une autre jolie église: St. Paul's AME Church.
Nous sommes revenus sur Front Street et nous nous sommes arrêtés devant l'édifice Cabinet Building. C'est à cet endroit que se rassemble le Sénat.
Vous pouvez également accéder à un joli parc, le Queen Elizabeth Park, à partir des escaliers situés sur la rue Par-La-Ville.

Le parc Blue Hole est non seulement connu sous le nom de Réserve Naturelle de Walsingham mais également sous le nom de Tom Moore's Jungle.
La randonnée dans ce parc nous mène vers des attraits naturels sensationnels dont deux mangroves aux eaux bleues électrisantes ainsi que plusieurs grottes avec plusieurs formations de stalactites et stalagmites dans lesquelles il est possible de s'y promener et même de s'y baigner.
Deux possibilités s'offrent à vous pour débuter cette randonnée: prendre le petit sentier herbeux qui débute près du stationnement ou tout simplement marcher sur le sentier pavé qui longe le bord de l'eau, ce qui vous permettra d'obtenir de belles vues de Castle Harbour.
Après quelques minutes de marche, il est possible de prendre un court sentier vers la droite. Celui-ci mène à une grotte (grotte # 1 dans la vidéo). Elle est située sous une haute falaise sur laquelle on peut déjà observer d'immenses stalactites.
L'eau de la grotte est limpide et d'une belle couleur turquoise. L'eau semble peu profonde. Cependant, ce n'est qu'une illusion provoquée par la clarté de l'eau.
Il faut ensuite rebrousser chemin et faire quelques pas sur le sentier principal. On aperçoit alors un muret de ciment (anciennes toilettes) et un sentier sur la gauche qui mène à l'attraction # 1 de ce parc, le Blue Hole.
Le Blue Hole est en fait une mangrove, une piscine naturelle aux eaux bleu clair. Cette piscine est bordée par une forêt dense ainsi que par des rochers et des crevasses. Il est possible de se baigner dans cette piscine.
Une plateforme a été installée en bordure de l'eau. Elle permet non seulement de contempler ce magnifique endroit mais également de regarder les poissons nager dans l'eau tellement celle-ci est cristalline.
Nous avons visité le Blue Hole à trois reprises. La première fois, il pleuvait abondamment. La couleur de l'eau était cependant électrisante. La seconde fois, il y avait plusieurs débris dans l'eau et celle-ci était brouillée. La troisième fois, tout était parfait. Le soleil était au rendez-vous et la couleur et la clarté de l'eau nous permettaient vraiment d'apprécier ce décor enchanteur.
Il y a une série de grottes situées tout près du Blue Hole (grotte # 2 dans la vidéo). La plupart avait leur sol submergé par une eau turquoise cristalline lors de notre passage, sauf une, et nous avons pénétré à l'intérieur de celle-ci.
Pour pénétrer à l'intérieur d'une grotte, il est primordial d'avoir une lampe frontale ou une lampe de poche car il n'y a aucune source de lumière à l'intérieur. C'est le noir total.
La lampe nous permet non seulement de nous déplacer de façon plus sécuritaire, mais également de pouvoir découvrir un monde de splendeur qu'offre la vue de nombreuses stalactites qui se reflètent dans l'eau turquoise.
Il y a un second trou bleu (Blue Hole). Pour s'y rendre, à partir du trou bleu # 1, il suffit de revenir sur ses pas. Dès que l'on atteint les anciennes toilettes, situées sur le sentier principal, il faut prendre le sentier à gauche à travers la forêt.
La randonnée se poursuit donc sur ce sentier jusqu'à une fourche. Si l'on continue sur le même sentier, celui-ci nous mènera vers le stationnement d'une autre entrée qui mène également à ce parc.
Par contre, en prenant le sentier de droite, il nous mène au trou bleu # 2. Celui-ci est beaucoup plus petit que le premier. On ne peut pas y nager.
Cependant, l'eau est tellement claire que l'on peut facilement y observer une multitude de poissons multicolores.
Le poisson qui m'a le plus impressionnée est le poisson-perroquet. Bien sûr, c'est un poisson imposant, mais son corps possède de belles couleurs vives.
Il nageait près de nous et sortait quelques fois sa tête hors de l'eau, ce qui nous a permis de voir sa belle dentition. On dirait qu'il nous faisait un beau sourire!

Be careful how hard you hit that ball in your next cricket match; you never know where youll have to go searching for it, or what you might find. According to local lore, in the early 1900s two boys went searching for a lost ball and stumbled upon an enchanting underground spectacle now known as the Crystal & Fantasy Caves. You wont have to press through the same small hole that the Hollis brothers did to encounter this phenomenon of geological formations; the caves now have a visitors entrance, guided tours and constructed walkways that descend 120 feet under the earths surface.
Upon entering the Crystal Caves youll discover the reason behind their name is as clear as the water that fills them. Although theyre deep within the earth, the waters of underground Cahow Lake shimmer in rich deep turquoise. Stroll across the pontoon bridge pathways along the surface of the lake, passing countless white helictites, which are characterized by their clustered, abstract and jagged formations. Stalactites trickle down from the ceiling and stalagmites emerge through the clear water from the caves floor, 50 feet below.
Adventurous types will find a heart-pumping descent next-door at Fantasy Cave. A steep journey underground leads to a treasure trove of constellations with soda straw formations dripping from above and calcite mineral deposits ornamenting the cave walls like frozen crystalline waterfalls. Standing on bridged pathways over the illuminated water, youll get just a teasing glimpse of the interconnecting passageways that lead out to the ocean.
After the tough climb out of Fantasy Cave you can re-energize on the grounds, with a light bite or drink at Cafe Olé followed by a visit to Fiddlestix, where you can buy your very own precious crystal memorabilia.
