Kodagu is an administrative district in Karnataka, India. Before 1956 it was an administratively separate Coorg State,[3] at which point it was merged into an enlarged Mysore State. It occupies an area of 4,102 square kilometres (1,584 sq mi) in the Western Ghats of southwestern Karnataka. In 2001 its population was 548,561, 13.74% of which resided in the district's urban centres, making it the least populous of the 30 districts in Karnataka.
The district is bordered by Dakshina Kannada district to the northwest, Kasargod district of Kerala to the west, Hassan district to the north, Mysore district to the east, Kannur district of Kerala to the southwest, and the Wayanad district of Kerala to the south. Agriculture is the most important factor that upholds the economy of Kodagu and the main crops cultivated in this region are rice and coffee. Coorg is rich in natural resources which included timber and spices. Madikeri (English: Mercara) is the headquarters of Kodagu.
Kodagu is known for its coffee and its people. The dominant group are the indigenous (Kodavas) and other ethnic groups (Arabashe Gowdas and Kodava subgroups). The chief languages presently spoken in Kodagu are Kodava, Are Bhashe, Kannada, Tulu, Konkani and Urdu. Kodagu is home to the native speakers of the Kodava language.

Manjarabad Fort Star shaped fort at Sakleshpur tourism Hassan Tourism Karnataka tourism, Fort tourism, Karnataka forts. Manjarabad fort is a star fort built in 1792 by Tipu Sultan the then ruler of Mysore using French military architects. It is in the Hassan district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Manjarabad Fort is the only intact star shaped Fort in India at present. Constructed by Tipu in 1792, the Tiger of Mysore, was greatly influenced by Fort Williams built by the British in Kolkata, and planned the fort in a similar manner with an eight-pointed star design, A tunnel inside the fort is said to lead to Srirangapatna, and some believe Tipu used to travel back and forth on his horse. Tipu Sultan built the Star shaped fort in 1792 at a time when he was establishing his sovereignty over Mysore, fighting against the British East India Company.At this time even the Marathas and the Nizam of Hyderabad had aligned with the British. The Sultan wanted to make the highway between Mangalore and Coorg secure for his expansion programmes. Because he was allied with the French at that time against the British, he sought the help of French engineers to build a star fort of the European style. The fort is located on a hill at an elevation of 988 metres (3,241 ft), it gives a clear and commanding view of the surroundings. On a clear day, even the Arabian Sea can also be seen from the fort.
Manjarabad fort Star fort of India is located on the Bengaluru - Mangaluru Highway, Donigal, Karnataka. The Manjarabad fort is located 10 kilometres from Sakaleshpura town on the right bank of the Hemavati River, 23 miles from Hassan on the National Highway 75 that runs from Bangalore to Mangalore.
