10. Puno
Puno is a port city on the shores of Lake Titicaca on the Altiplano of Peru. Despite its picturesque hillside setting, the city itself is a ramshackle collection of mostly unfinished modern buildings. Its biggest attraction is as a departure point for the famous floating islands on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca.
9. Mancora
Once just an attractive roadside fishing port, Mancora is now the most trendy beach in Peru, attracting a surf crowd from around the globe. It’s a highly welcome and very enjoyable stopover when traveling along the north coast.
8. Trujillo
Trujillo is a moderately large city in Northwestern Peru, near the Pacific Coast. The city was founded in 1534 among 4 Chimu settlements to enable the Spanish to ally with them against the Incas. Trujillo is close to the pre-Columbian site of Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the ancient world and the beach resort of Huanchaco.
7. Nazca Desert
The Nazca Desert occupies a strip along the northern Pacific coast on a high arid plateau. The famous Nazca Lines are located between the towns of Nazca and Palpa. Created between 200 BC and 700 AD the figures range from simple lines to stylized spiders, monkeys, lizards and human figures.
6. Iquitos
Iquitos is a unique city in that it is the largest city in the world inaccessible by roads, leaving planes and boats as the primary ways of entrance. However, that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most popular places to visit in Peru.
5. Lima
As Peru’s capital and largest city, Lima is a sprawling metropolis constituting an architectural blend of pre-Hispanic, colonial and modern infrastructure. The city was founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro and offers a rich history as well as exceptional food, a vibrant culture and lively nightlife.
4. Sacred Valley
Once the heartland of the Inca Empire, The Sacred Valley of the Incas is a valley in the Andes, close to Cusco and the ancient city of Machu Picchu. The valley was appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities.
3. Arequipa
One of Peru’s most visited cities, Arequipa is surrounded by three picturesque volcanoes in the country’s Southern Coastal region. Arequipa embodies a rich mix of the indigenous and Spanish colonial cultures. Examples of Spanish colonial architecture can be found throughout the center of the city.
2. Cusco
Often serving as a popular base to explore nearby famous ruins like Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Cusco was the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Located in southeastern Peru, Cusco one of Peru’s most important tourist destinations.

As Peru’s most popular tourist attraction and one of the world’s most famous archaeological wonders, Machu Picchu is located 7,000 feet (2,100 meters) above sea level in the Andes Mountains. Although this magnificent Inca site provokes more mysteries than facts.

Magical Peru #6: Huanchaco
After visiting Chan Chan (Huaca del Dragon) and the pyramids of Huaca de la Luna and Huaca del Sol, of the Moche ancient culture and the Chimu empire, we headed to the town of Huanchaco, a popular beach resort for Trujillo residents.
Huanchaco is a town and a beach from origin mochica that is visited commonly as a summer vacation spot, It is located in the northern of Trujillo city, in Peru. Huanchaco is the most visited beach of Trujillo city and It is famous for several things but particularly for being a surfer's dream spot and its caballitos de totora. The most famous food here is the ceviche. Huanchaco is nearby the very famous ruins of Chan Chan. Throughout 2008 the town underwent significant improvements with all streets being paved with decorative bricks and the main street landscaped with plants. In 2012 Huanchaco has been approved as a World Surfing Reserve by the organization Save The Waves Coalition. This historic town is part of the tourist circuit called the Moche Route or Ruta Moche. Located 12 km northwest Trujillo, sits in a bay, on a terrace at the foot of Campana mountain. Today is a beautiful beach that despite its modernity, still retains its old charm.
We started out trip around Peru from the capital, Lima, the main entry point for foreigners arriving in Peru. On the way, we visited many archaeological sites and learnt about the ancient civilizations that made pre-Columbian Peru.
After departing Lima, we headed to the North Coast. In Trujillo we stayed at the Hotel Colonial, which you can see on the previous video. From Trujillo we visited the cities of Huanchaco and Chiclayo, and the archaeological sites of Huaca de la Luna, Huaca del Sol, Chan Chan and the tomb of the Lord of Sipán, including their museums.

Magical Peru #1: Lima Highlights
We are starting out trip around Peru from the capital, Lima, the main entry point for foreigners arriving in Peru. Instead of going on a city tour, we walked a lot on our own. From Lima, we go to Trujillo, Huanchaco, Chiclayo, Arequipa, Chivay, Canyon de Colca, Puno, Lago Titicaca, Cusco, Valle Sagrado, Aguas Caliente and, of course, Machu Pichu. On the way we visited many archaeological sites and learnt about the ancient civilizations that made pre-Columbian Peru.

On this first video, we see only the highlights of our time in Lima. For the full story please watch the previous vlog Living in Lima, as we show places like the plazas in the city centre, the parks, the museums, the archaeological sites and even the Spanish school where we studied.
After departing Lima, we headed to the North Coast. From Trujillo we visited the cities of Huanchaco and Chiclayo, and the archaeological sites of Huaca de la Luna, Huaca del Sol, Chan Chan and the tomb of the Lord os Sipán, including their museums.

- Miraflores Clifftops & Larcomar Shopping Mall
- Museo de la Nacion
- Huaca Pucllana Archaeological Site

- Museo Nacional de Arqueologia, Antropologia e Historia del Peru
- Circuito Magico del Agua

Safety in Peru: Is it Safe to Live and Travel in Peru

You're not going to see violent crimes or guns in the beach towns or the small villages that dot the countryside.
The biggest problem here is petty crime. And I'm talking about purse snatching or grabbing your cell phone as you're walking along the street. But you can easily avoid these situations by just not inviting attention to yourself.
ou know, don't flash wads of cash. Don't always have your cell phone out as you're walking along. Don't leave your iPad sitting on tables. Just watch your belongings.
They're pretty good about that here. When you're in restaurants, they will remind you to watch your belongings.
They'll move a chair over to your table to set your backpack on. So it's something you can avoid quite easily.
