Amsterdam is overloaded with tourists during the summer months that's why IJmuiden & Velsen are great destinations for a quick day trip just 30 minutes west of Amsterdam. Velsen is an area you won't find in any Amsterdam tourist guide.
Hungry? Grab a burger at Bunch, located on the Langenieuw shopping street in the heart of IJmuiden. Order a side dish of Indonesian sate with sauce!
In Velsen you can have brunch or dinner at great restaurants like the Boschbeek, Zilt-aan-Zee and Duin & Kruidberg. All great places with incredible local cuisine.
IJmuiden is best known for the most incredible beach in Holland so on a sunny summer day in Amsterdam it is worth the 40 min road trip from Amsterdam Central Station or 1 hour by bus.
If you really want to venture out try a Dutch sate or goulash croquette at the local snackbars, you'll be able to find one on the main shopping streets. IJmuiden is also known for its humongous fishing harbors, so make sure to grab a traditional Dutch herring with onions at the many fish shops. You won't be disappointed!
In the country side you'll find the remains of Brederode Castle, one of the oldest castles of Holland. Sadly, it was destroyed through many wars but luckily one last tower remains. It will guarantee a great day trip, especially for the kids.
There is nothing more satifying than meeting up with friends & family each year in my home town. The Santpoort Festival Week is perhaps one of the best places to mingle with the local Dutchies.

Volendam is a small town just north of Amsterdam counting only 22,000 inhabitants. Volendam was the location of the former harbor of the nearby Edam. Farmers and local fishermen settled there, forming the new community of Vollendam, which literally meant something like 'Filled dam'.
I highly recommend taken one day out of your Holland travel schedule and visit this mesmerizing place.
In the early part of the 20th century it became something of an artists' retreat, with both Picasso and Renoir spending time here. Volendam's traditional costume is one of the best known examples of ancient clothing (klederdracht) in the country. Only a handful of people wear it in their daily lives today, but as the locals have recognized its value for tourism you will probably still run into it here or there.

Haarlem-Holland
Haarlem ligt in de noordvleugel van de Randstad. De gemeente grenst met de klok mee aan de gemeentes Velsen, Haarlemmerliede en Spaarnwoude, Haarlemmermeer, Heemstede en Bloemendaal. Oostwaarts liggen Amsterdam (19 km) en Schiphol (13 km). De havens van IJmuiden liggen 10 km naar het noorden en de Noordzeekust ligt ongeveer 7 km naar het westen.
Haarlem heeft een belangrijke regionale functie. Het primaire verzorgingsgebied bestaat uit het noordelijke deel van de Zuid-Hollandse Bollenstreek, met in het bijzonder de gemeenten Hillegom, Zuid-Kennemerland, IJmond en een deel van de Haarlemmermeer. De stad is bisschopszetel van het Bisdom Haarlem-Amsterdam. De agglomeratie Haarlem maakt op haar beurt weer deel uit van een grotere agglomeratie, de Metropoolregio Amsterdam. Deze regio beslaat een groot deel van de noordvleugel van de Randstad en heeft meer dan 2 miljoen inwoners.
Het Spaarne is de belangrijkste rivier die door Haarlem heen stroomt. Aan het Spaarne staan veel oude loodsen, de Droste-fabriek en andere historische panden. De rivier wordt vooral in de zomermaanden veel gebruikt door pleziervaart. Ook de Mooie Nel aan de noordoostkant van de stad biedt een groot open vaarwater. Vanaf het Spaarne is via Spaarndam het Noordzeekanaal bereikbaar en via de Ringvaart zijn de plassen van Zuid-Holland te bereiken. De grachten en singels in en rondom de binnenstad zijn bereikbaar voor boten met een geringe doorvaarthoogte.
Centrum
Het stadscentrum van Haarlem, 12.000 inwoners, bestaat uit de historische binnenstad en de buurt tussen het station en de Nieuwe Gracht. De historische binnenstad, die omringd is door grachten en singels, wordt gekenmerkt door vele oude straatjes en monumenten. In het hart van het de binnenstad ligt de Grote Markt waaraan enkele bijzondere historische gebouwen staan waaronder het stadhuis, de Vleeshal en de Grote of St. Bavokerk. De skyline van de binnenstad wordt gedomineerd door deze enorme kerk met zijn bijna 80 meter hoge toren. Veel bekende musici onder wie Mozart hebben op het wereldberoemde Müllerorgel in de kerk gespeeld. De derde versie van het eerste Nederlandse vliegtuig, de Spin 3 van Anthony Fokker, vloog op een vlucht boven de Haarlemse binnenstad en rond de St. Bavokerk ter gelegenheid van Koninginnedag in 1911. Op de Grote Markt is twee keer per week markt en door het jaar heen vinden er verschillende evenementen plaats waaronder de jaarlijkse kermis. Vanaf de Grote Markt lopen in drie richtingen belangrijke winkelstraten namelijk de Grote Houtstraat, de Barteljorisstraat en de Zijlstraat. In het historisch centrum bevindt zich een aantal kleine karakteristieke winkelstraatjes, zoals de Warmoesstraat, de Schagchelstraat en de Kleine Houtstraat. De rivier het Spaarne scheidt de binnenstad in twee delen. Ten westen van de rivier ligt het grootste deel van de binnenstad. Ten oosten het deel dat ook wel de Spaarnwouderbuurt wordt genoemd. In dit deel is onder andere de enige overgebleven stadspoort van Haarlem te vinden de Spaarnwouder- of Amsterdamse Poort. Ook bevinden zich hier de molen De Adriaan en Koepelgevangenis. Beide oevers van het Spaarne worden door twee monumentale draaibruggen, een klein ophaalbruggetje genaamd de Gravestenenbrug en een moderne ophaalbrug met elkaar verbonden. Deze laatste brug, die in de volksmond de 'Verfroller' wordt genoemd, heet officieel de Lange Brug.
Veel van de gebouwen in de binnenstad stammen uit de 16e, 17e, 18e en 19e eeuw. Er is echter ook veel moderne architectuur te vinden, zoals de Toneelschuur en de nieuwbouw rond de Appelaar. De buurt die tussen de Nieuwe Gracht en het station, de Stationbuurt, werd gebouwd in de tweede helft 19e eeuw. Langs de Nieuwe Gracht staan veel grote patriciërswoningen. In de jaren '60 en '70 van de 19e eeuw kwamen de villa's aan het Kenaupark en het Ripperdapark en op de Bolwerken tot stand. Het ontwerp van deze villaparken is van de hand van de Haarlemse (tuin)architect Louis Paul Zocher. In 1908 kwam het nieuwe station aan het Stationsplein tot stand. De architectuur van het stationsgebouw is in Jugendstil, het station is een ontwerp van Dirk Margadant.

LOCATION

Amsterdam was granted city rights in either 1300 or 1306. From the 14th century on, Amsterdam flourished, largely from trade. Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century), as a result of its innovative developments in trade. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Amsterdam is a large city and a major tourist destination, so you can visit it all year round. Dutch capital is great all year round, but consider coming between in April, May, early June, or mid-September and mid-October, when crowds are smaller and you’ll have a better chance for sunny skies. The worst time for sightseeing is during the summer when lines for the most popular attractions can mean a very long. In winter the days are short (8 hours daylight).
CLIMATE
Amsterdam has an oceanic climate strongly influenced by its proximity to the North Sea to the west. Both winters and summers are considered mild. January and February are the coldest months, with lows around -1°C and highs around 5°C. July and August are the warmest months, with an average temperature of 22°C (72°F).
COMMUNICATION
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is 15km southwest of the city. It ranks in the top 15 airports worldwide for passenger traffic, serving more than 60 million passengers per year. NS Dutch Railways operates trains to-from the lower level of the airport. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes. A pleasant way to cover a lot of ground is to rent a bicycle. There is at least one bike for every people living in Amsterdam. The city is very bike-friendly, and there are separate bike lanes on most major streets.

Amsterdam is the financial and business capital of the Netherlands. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange in the world. The Port of Amsterdam is the fourth largest port in Europe, the second largest port in the Netherlands. How is life in Uitgeest??? Noord Holland, the Netherlands
Uitgeest is a town in the province of North Holland, The Netherlands. It has a total area of 22.29 km and has a population of around 13,700. Uitgeest is close to the highways of A9 and N8/A8. That is why from here you can easily access Amsterdam in around 15 to 20 minutes. The things you can do in Uitgeest are: sailing/water sport, picnic by the lake or swim by De Zien (public outdoor pool). You can also enjoy the beaches & visit the neighboring towns of Castricum, Heemskerk, Wijk aan Zee and IJmuiden. If you want to experience the Cheese Market, you can go by bus or by train to Alkmaar.
Pampus Island Amsterdam- Fort & Food Festival
New Amsterdam Travel Video- Pampus is a man-made island that sits in the shallow waters of the Ijsselmeer. A fort was built to protect the city from attacks by sea and is part of the 45 fort defense network that form a 135 km. U- shape around the city. The fort never saw any wartime action and it's defense purpose lessened after the Ijsselmeer was closed off from the North Sea. The fort and island have been recently preserved and renovated and visitors are welcome to explore and learn about the history. This year the Proef Pampus Picnic (Taste Pampus) food festival was organized to create an island party with local food and drink, fort tours and events for children. Ferries leave from both Ijburg and Muiden and it's possible to go there with your own boat too. Fort Pampus Island is another great, interesting place to discover in the Amsterdam area.
