Golden Lane is a street situated at the Prague Castle, Czech Republic. Its name is connected with 16th century alchemists, who had to look there, according to legends, for a reaction to produce gold. Even though the lane was temporarily called the Street of Alchemists or Alchemists' Alley, alchemists have never worked or lived there.
Golden Lane consist of tiny colored houses. Today it is a part of small and big castle ring (i.e. entrance is available for paying a fee), while from the closing hour of Prague Castle interiors it is open for free. Nowadays there are many souvenir shops in the houses and there is a medieval museum of armory within the former 14th-century fortification accessible from the Golden Lane.( )
Zlatá ulička (oficiální název Zlatá ulička u Daliborky) na Pražském hradě se nachází mezi zdí jeho severního opevnění a starým purkrabstvím. Domky vestavěné od konce 16. století do výklenků hradby byly obývány až do 2. světové války. Malebný ráz uličky byl vnímán už za první republiky a dbá se na to, aby nebyly domky příliš měněny. V současné době jsou zde galerie, originální krámky a expozice. Celá ulička se těší docela velké oblibě turistů, snad i pro svůj pohádkový vzhled vybledlých pastelových tónů, maličkých oken a dveří, nízkých střech a množství komínů.( )

Dawniej nazywała się ulicą Złotniczą (Zlatnická), gdyż była prawdopodobnie siedzibą miejscowych złotników – Żydów pracujących dla skarbu, znajdujących w ten sposób schronienie za murami zamku. Powstała między romańskim i późnogotyckim obwarowaniem północnej części zamku. Do zamkowych łuków muru obronnego, wzniesionego ok. 1500 r. przez Benedykta Rejta, dobudowano małe domki (ponad nimi widać kawałek muru). Poddasza domków tworzą chodnik obronny, łączący wieże Białą i Daliborską.( )

Střekov Castle was built in 1316 for John of Luxembourg, the father of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV, to guard an important trade route to Germany. After changing hands several times, the castle was acquired by the Lobkowicz family in 1563. Its strategic importance led to occupations by Imperial Habsburg, Saxon, and Swedish forces during the Thirty Years' War, as well as successive sieges by Austrian and Prussian armies during the Seven Years' War. Although Střekov Castle was heavily damaged during those conflicts and abandoned as a military installation by the end of the 18th century, the 1800s saw many poets and artists visiting the castle, drawn by a new trend of interest in romantic ruins. Goethe declared the view from the castle's position above the Elbe to be the most beautiful in Central Europe, while Richard Wagner's opera Tannhäuser was supposedly inspired by his visit to Strěkov. The castle was confiscated by the Nazi regime and later the Communist government, but was restituted to the Lobkowicz family in the early 1990s.
