Ukok PlateauKosh Agach Ukok Plateau is a remote and pristine grasslands area located in the heart of southwestern Siberia, the Altai Mountains region of Russia near the borders with China, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. The plateau is recognized as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled Golden Mountains of Altai as an important environmental treasure. It provides a habitat for many of the world's endangered species including one of its least studied predatory animals: the snow leopard. Other endangered species protected there include the argali mountain sheep, the steppe eagle, and the black stork. There are several threats to the preservation of the Ukok Plateau, including overuse of the steppe by ranchers, a proposed road, and plans for a gas pipeline between China and Russia. This is the Second video of Day-10 of my Russian trip in which you will see me exploring the Altai Mountains, the unexplored part of beautiful Russia. I managed to reach Onguday with the help of a lovely elderly couple. After that, I got a lift in another car from Onguday to Geyzernoye Ozero, a place near Aktach. I stayed with Dima and Tanya in a log hut in Geyzernoye Ozero. We all paid 500 Rubles each for a night. Interestingly that was the coldest night of my trip. The temperature dipped to almost -10-degree Celsius. More details -

Отдых в Горном Алтае подходит к концу. Мы движемся по Чуйскому тракту в Горно-Алтайск - столицу республики Алтай. По пути заезжаем в лесной заповедник Шале Прискальный на реке Катунь. Территория турбазы огромная. После прогулки по Шале Прискальный мы направились в Горно-Алтайск, где остановились в Кедровом доме Кочиевских, у наших друзей Лии и Димы. И еще раз решили снять дом, территорию и рассказать про цены 2017 и нащ отдых на Алтае.
