The prefecture-level city, located on the banks of the Yellow River, is a key regional transportation hub, connecting areas further west by rail to the eastern half of the country. Historically, it has been a major link on the Northern Silk Road. The city is also a center for heavy industry and petrochemical industry.   • 1. Dongfanghong Square Lanzhou
    Dong Fang Hong Square is a large square and park in Lanzhou, China. It is located centrally in the city. On the west side, a stadium is located and on the east side the Guofang Department Store mall is located. The square was given its current name 1968, with fountains and grass patches added in 1981. The stadium on the west side was built in 1984. In 1993, a partially underground shopping mall was constructed, and the square was enlarged. It maximum width is 638 metres from east to west, 155 metres from north to south, with a total surface area of 92,172 square metres .
