Lefkimmi is a town and a former municipality on the island of Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Corfu, of which it is a municipal unit. Its land area is 50.819 km² and its population was 5,800 at the 2011 census. Lefkimmi is the southernmost municipal unit on the island. Tourism is its main industry along with agriculture and other businesses. It features beaches, restaurants, shops, taverns and hotels.     The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed military invasion of Cuba undertaken by the Central Intelligence Agency -sponsored paramilitary group Brigade 2506 on 17 April 1961. A counter-revolutionary military group , trained and funded by the CIA, Brigade 2506 fronted the armed wing of the Democratic Revolutionary Front and intended to overthrow the increasingly communist government of Fidel Castro. Launched from Guatemala and Nicaragua, the invading force was defeated within three days by the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, under the direct command of Castro. The coup of 1952 led by General Fulgencio Batista, an ally of the United States, against President Carlos Prio, forced Prio into exile to Miami, Florida.
