Lehighton is a borough in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, United States, 77 miles north of Philadelphia, and 54 miles south of Scranton. In the past, it developed early industries because of water power from the Lehigh River. With the location of a repair facility here and its regional operations, the Lehigh Valley Railroad became for years a major employer of thousands of people from the area. Post-World War II railroad and industry restructuring led to job and population losses. From a peak of nearly 7,000 in 1940, the population was 5,500 at the 2010 census.     Beltzville State Park is a 2,972.39-acre Pennsylvania state park in Franklin and Towamensing townships, Carbon County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The park opened in 1972, and was developed around the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood control project, Beltzville Dam on Pohopoco Creek. The village of Big Creek Valley was vacated in 1966 to make way for Beltzville Lake. Beltzville Lake is a 951.5 acres with 19.8 miles of shoreline. Beltzville State Park is 5 miles east of Lehighton just off U.S. Route 209. The park is at an elevation of 633 feet .Beltzville Lake is a popular fishing destination.
