Lisburn is a city in Northern Ireland. It is 8 mi southwest of Belfast city centre, on the River Lagan, which forms the boundary between County Antrim and County Down. Lisburn is part of the Belfast Metropolitan Area.
Formerly a borough, Lisburn was granted city status in 2002 as part of Queen Elizabeth II's Golden jubilee celebrations. It is the third-largest city in Northern Ireland. Lisburn is one of the constituent cities that make up the Dublin-Belfast corridor region which has a population of just under 3 million.
The north and south divide in Lisburn can be seen either side of the railway line that goes through the centre of the city. North Lisburn is home to many of the residential neighbourhoods, and contains the notable landmarks of the Theipval Barracks, and the Laurelhill Sportszone.
Lisburn is notable for its large number of churches, with 132 churches listed in the Lisburn City Council area. One of two cathedrals in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Connor is in Lisburn, Christ Church Cathedral.
Lisburn railway station was opened on 12 August 1839. The railway remains a popular means of transport between Lisburn and Belfast, with the express trains taking 10–15 minutes to reach Belfast's Great Victoria Street. The Lagan Canal passes through Lisburn. This connected the port of Belfast to Lough Neagh, reaching Lisburn in 1763 (although the full route to Lough Neagh was not complete until 1793). Lisburn has become one of the main towns/cities in Northern Ireland for shopping. Bow Street Mall, on Bow Street, houses over 70 stores, many eateries (including a food court) and a multi-storey car park with over 1000 spaces.

A short walk around Lisburn City - only 8 miles southwest from Belfast City Centre - on the River Lagan - well worth a visit.
For people wondering where is Lisburn in Northern Ireland - it's just outside of Belfast - so it is easy to get to, if you have some time to spare to check out the area.
Lisburn is the third largest city in Northern Ireland and that gives it much of importance just like the attention that is always given to Belfast - it is even 8 miles northwest from Belfast's city centre, which means that it is also close for people to reach and check what it has for them.
This city, Lisburn, is situated on River Lagan and thus it forms the boundary between county Antrim and county Down. Lisburn is also part of Belfast Metropolitan Area and it has several touristic attractions or places that people could visit while they are in the city, which include the Irish Linen Museum ( Christ Church Cathedral ( as well as Lisburn Castle Gardens.
During our visit to Lisburn - was not the first time though :-) - we managed to walk down the streets of the city, check those shops and boutiques scattered all around the place, and eventually entering those touristic attractions and landmarks which managed to be the spotlight of Lisburn in general, and for all the shopping lovers out there, Lisburn is also considered one of the biggest shopping destinations in Northern Ireland with Bow Street Mall that occupies over 70 stores.
The Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum started its journey with dealing with the local history regarding Lisburn and the Lagan Valley but it was then integrated with the history of textiles in 1994 when the Irish linen centre opened. This linen centre and museum is worth the visit because it collects and preserves items from the history of both Ireland's linen industry and the Lagan Valley.
In this museum, there are even some galleries to walk through and see those materials which are placed regarding Lisburn's cultural scene that focuses on local personalities, artists, poets, and writers.
In addition to visiting the place to explore more about the history of Lisburn when it comes to this industry, in this place there are also some free guided tours offered as well as those workshops that help the visitors in exploring the history of Irish linen and also a good day out for the school children :-)
Our next stop in Lisburn city was the Christ Church Cathedral. The Christ Church Cathedral was first called and referred to as St. Thomas's Church. This church was previously burnt down and the work which you will find standing today is commenced in 1708 after this incidence. After the reconstruction that took place in 1662, St. Thomas was designated the cathedral church. From that point, Christ Church Cathedral became one of the most important places to visit when it comes to Lisburn city in Northern Ireland.
Moving forward with the rest of our trip, we reached the next stop which we also recommend for all those who would be visiting Lisburn which is the Castle Gardens ( Lisburn Castle Gardens might be one of the most visited places in the city that also carries some ties with history. This place is good for those who want to walk among nature or just sit there relaxing their minds, it is also a perfect destination for those who want to see some of the old statues which might be taking their place in the garden.
The upper section of the garden dates back to the late Victorian times and there are some historical significant features that include the 1677 red sandstone gateway, the Wallace drinking fountain, and a memorable erected in 1891 that honors Lisburn's landlord Sir Richard Wallace.
All these things tell that the gardens is related back to history and that even comes in addition to some of the artifacts which were found in it and which most of them are displayed at the museum in the centre of the city.
Lisburn is filled with places to visit and inspect and in addition to those which we have mentioned and been to, there is also the Island Arts Centre ( the famous Giant's Ring ( and checking those different events which might be only taking place in the city annually, such as the Christmas market for example ( or else checking something like the Foote Farm which is held annually and which allows people to get to the farm on weekends and experience the day there (

Belfast is the capital and largest city of Northern Ireland, the second largest on the island of Ireland, and the heart of the tenth largest Primary Urban Area in the United Kingdom. Belfast is an amazing city (the capital of Northern Ireland as well) - with even more amazing people. The city has been through the ultimate in ups and as low as they can go - downs. It was an industrial powerhouse in the 18th and 19th centuries and in the early 1900's it was the largest city on the island of Ireland. Sad times were never too far away - from the loss of the Titanic to Belfast being the 2nd most bombed city in the UK - to the troubles that impacted every part of Northern Ireland - the city has suffered more than most (
But the people of the city set it apart, from sitting having a tea - to drinking a beer in their local town. What else to say :-) Its a crazy, small city with loads of offers for locals and different places for the visitors to come and check.
So put Belfast on your list - if visiting Ireland or even the UK - well worth considering due to the local attractions. Belfast tours are available on foot, bus, car, air and water! Travel to Belfast is easy with two airports and the motorway from Dublin.

Belfast city happens to be one of those European cities that carries a lot of history inside and thus will be always calling out for tourists to come and spend a couple of days in. There are lots of things to be seen in the city and from those which we have been to before, there is the famous City Hall building ( we also visited St. Anne's Cathedral which happens to be a famous cathedral in the city ( and walked through Victoria Square which is famous with being a shopping destination.
In addition to those buildings, there are other things that made a mark in the history of Belfast, such as losing the famous Titanic ship and which was built in Belfast and thus there has been a memorial placed in the garden of City Hall and there is also the Titanic museum to be found in the city ( Titanic has a smaller sister which is known as SS Nomadic and which back then helped in transporting the passengers from the land to the Titanic Ship. After more than 100 years, the SS Nomadic is back in Belfast where it is now turned into a touristic attraction that people could visit (
Among those famous landmarks found in Belfast city, Northern Ireland, there is Albert Tower which lots of those tourists visiting Belfast manage to place it on the list of things they would be doing and seeing there ( And finally, through the tour we have been doing to bring this video out to life and get more introduced to Belfast, we also came across Queen's University which opened back in 1849 (
All those Belfast attractions were passed by in a quick tour taken around the city but you could of course stop at every single one of them, enter if you are allowed to, and take all the pictures that you want; just make a good plan, know what are the attractions that are located close to one another and how long are you going to spend in every single one of them in order to visit those close ones all at the same day.
There are different other attractions that one could visit in Belfast and which are also considered very famous but the ones we already mentioned above are the landmarks of the city. From those other attractions, one could visit the Crumlin Road Gaol which is an old jail that has served for more than 150 years before closing its doors and being transformed into a touristic attraction site ( There is also the Belfast Castle which is an old castle building that tourists love to come across as well (
Being the capital city of Northern Ireland is not the only reason for those heading to Northern Ireland to visit, but Belfast is also an attraction because it is the largest city and carries lots of historical attractions and places that people could visit, and it is also the second largest city on the island of Ireland as a whole.

Whether it is about the shopping places and centers or else about the museums and old historical places, there are always what you will fall in love with in Belfast, and most importantly, walking around this city is a recommended option.
Walking through the city, you might be searching for those best bars which you want to have a drink at ( you might be looking for those best restaurants which you could be offered with delicious food at ( and you might be one of those coffee lovers who will be searching for the best cafes in Belfast that one could enjoy coffee, brunch, or even get served with a yummy dessert (
Another part of walking around Belfast city and trying to explore it is going to check those historical places and buildings which will tell you more about the city. There are lots of landmarks for this city which one should pass by - even just walking beside it and taking some pictures - such as the case with the famous Europa Hotel. Walking around Belfast and exploring all the corners of this beautiful city, we have passed by famous streets, crucial shopping centers like the Victoria Square Shopping Centre which is considered the most famous in Belfast, and we even passed by Castle Court which is another important shopping centre to be found in the city.
The Commercial Court in Belfast is one of those places which are usually recommended for visitors for the different restaurants, bars, cafes, and even hotels which it hosts, and not just that, but it is also one of the places where lots of those old buildings and even bars are located - you will definitely enjoy a walk there and exploring all the beautiful things regarding this place ( The Commercial Court is found inside a place known as the Cathedral Quarter which is also one important spot to discover because it is located in Belfast's City Centre and invites lots of people to it (
We have to say that one of the best things about Belfast in Northern Ireland is the fact that most of the touristic attractions are located next to one another and within a walking distance and this allows for enjoying the scenery of walking the streets while going from one place to the other (
From the other recommended places to visit and the different things which one could actually do in Belfast, there is the famous Titanic Quarter and this goes back to Belfast being the home place for Titanic and the place it was built in ( there is also the Crumlin Road Goal ( there is Narnia & CS Lewis Square that is located in Belfast as well ( and the famous Belfast Castle (

One of the interesting things which we should mention about Belfast and walking through its streets is the graffiti or the murals which are found across the streets on the different walls of the buildings - this is one of the most interesting parts of our trip when we are walking the streets of Belfast - we get to see lots and lots of things.

Downpatrick is a medium-sized town about 33 km south of Belfast in County Down, Northern Ireland. It has been an important site since ancient times. Its cathedral is said to be the burial place of Saint Patrick.
As the largest town in the Lecale area, Downpatrick is a commercial, recreational and administrative centre for the locality and serves as a hub for the nearby towns and villages. Within a 30 minutes drive from Belfast, the location serves as a commuter town for a large number of people. The town has a number of primary and post-primary schools educating students from all over the east Down area.
Downpatrick is characterised by the rolling drumlins that are a feature of the Lecale area and a legacy of glaciation during the Pleistocene, the Down drumlins themselves are underlaid by Ordovician and Silurian shales and grits. Its lowest point lies within the marshland surrounding the north east of the town, recorded as being 1.3 ft (0.40 m) below sea level. Downpatrick is approximately 22 miles (35 km) from Belfast and has a regular bus service to the city.
Ballyalton Court Cairn is a single court grave situated on a rock outcrop by the roadside 0.5 miles (0.80 km) from Ballyalton village, which is 2.25 miles (3.62 km) east of Downpatrick, at grid ref 531 448. Ballynoe Stone Circle, a large circle of over 50 closely spaced upright stones, surrounding a mound which, when excavated, was found to contain two cists in which cremated bones were found, is only 2.5 miles (4 km) south in the hamlet of Ballynoe.
Down County Museum, is located on the Mall in English Street in Downpatrick and was formerly the old Down County Gaol. It was built between 1789 and 1796 at the behest of the County Grand Jury of Down under the supervision of Marquess of Downshire, the Earl of Hillsborough and the Hon Edward Ward, it was designed by architect Charles Lilly.
Downpatrick Racecourse, is located on the Ballydugan Road on the outskirts of Downpatrick. Horse racing has been held at Downpatrick under the charter of James II of England.
Downpatrick & County Down Railway is Ireland's only full-sized heritage railway. Built on the BCDR's former line to Belfast, it links the town with Inch Abbey and various other places of historical interest.
Inch Abbey, a large, ruined Cistercian monastic site featuring early Gothic architecture is 0.75 miles (1.2 km) north-west of Downpatrick on the north bank of the River Quoile off the main road to Belfast. The Lecale peninsula covers an area of some 78 square miles (200 km2) between Downpatrick and Dundrum. It is an area of historical and geographic significance.
The Mound of Down or Rathkeltair is one of the major earthworks of Ulster, situated on the NW edge of Downpatrick it is a good example of an Iron Age defensive earthwork in the middle of which a Norman Motte and Bailey was built by John de Courcy after his defeat of Rory Mac Donlevy in 1177.
St. Patrick Center, is the only permanent exhibition in the world dedicated to the patron saint of Ireland, and one of the best tourist destinations in Ireland. Quoile Castle is a ruined 16th-century tower house, just off the main road from Downpatrick to Strangford.
Downpatrick is situated at the junction of the A7 (Downpatrick to Saintfield and Belfast) road, the A25 (Downpatrick to Newry and Dublin) road and the A2 coast road. While there are no rail services in Downpatrick, Ulsterbus provides bus services to and from the Downpatrick Bus Station. Downpatrick railway station on the Belfast and County Down Railway, opened on 23 March 1859 and Downpatrick Loop Platform opened on 24 September 1892.

Christmas in Lisburn County Antrim - Things to do in Lisburn
Lisburn is a city in Northern Ireland that is located southwest of Belfast city centre on the River Lagan, so as a city it might be a famous place near Belfast that tourists could head to and check, but what about spending Christmas in Lisburn?
We believe that Christmas and New Year's Eve are usually the most glamorous days of the year; they really turn the streets into a glowing thing with all the lights and decorations that are placed there. Walking through the streets with these decorations turns into some kind of a hobby for some people - us included - and thus we decided to visit some cities in Ireland and Northern Ireland to see what they have to offer for us.
We have been to Lisburn to see what have been done to its streets, shops, and shopping centers for Christmas. At the beginning of the journey in this city, we headed to the Bow Street Mall and we should say that it was a good kind of experience because of the way they decorated the mall from the inside by mixing the Christmas theme with winter - so you will find those dogs that are responsible for strolling down Santa, there are those glowing balls which are decorating the place, and there is even Santa hanged on top in an air balloon - we actually fell in love with the atmosphere of the place as a whole.
This was the thing that highlighted the visit to Lisburn city in Northern Ireland in addition to the streets that we managed to walk through and which were also a little bit decorated with those Christmas lights and decorations. We wanted to make our trip to this city a little bit different, so we decided to head to a bowling center and play bowling for a change, so we chose Lisburn Bowl and headed there.
Walking through the streets of the city will depend on where you are because you might come across Santa waiting for you outside a specific restaurant or cafe asking you to come inside and you might pass by another one which is not decorating the place in the same kind of way.
One will never get the feeling of Christmas without the Christmas tree - will always be better with some gifts left under it as well :-) - so it always feels different when one comes across such kind of tree in the street and even if you have seen it million times the years before with the same way of decoration, you will still decide to take a couple of photos beside it - we all do the same everywhere.
From those other cities which Connolly Cove decided to visit in Northern Ireland and Ireland are the capitals; Belfast and Dublin, and we believe that being the capital city is one thing that plays a good role in making the decoration of the place much more appealing, which we believe was the case with Belfast and Dublin.
In Belfast we have been to the yearly Belfast Christmas market ( and we also got the chance to visit the famous shopping center where one could find everything he/she is searching for with all the shops it has, which is Victoria Square. Christmas in Belfast was interesting for us not only because of the lights and decorations, but also for the kind of food and drinks which we only get the chance to have from one year to the other (
Dublin was kind of the same; we walked through the different streets of the city - the city centre - got something to drink in the middle of the way, enjoyed the lights and the decorations of the street, and also passed by those Christmas carols which are rehearsed and sung in the streets and that's of course apart from the shops and restaurants which are decorated in the same kind of way (
Our series of trip to those different cities to check how glamorous their Christmas turned out to be also stopped at Antrim Castle Gardens where Christmas was being celebrated in the most right way with all the games, the food, the shows, and even the music played there; we had fun there along with the kids and we are just crossing our fingers that it would be repeated next year as well (

Holywood Town Belfast - Places to Visit in Northern Ireland
Cities and towns, these are the two different places that tourists get attracted to when it comes to visiting a new country for the first time and trying to explore as much of it as possible, or even for the local people who want to get to know more about their own personal country.
Holywood town is part of Northern Ireland, it is located in the metropolitan area of Belfast city in county Down. This town in Northern Ireland is a civil parish and townland of 755 acres, lying on the shore of Belfast Lough, between Belfast and Bangor.
Going back into the history of this old city, one will get to ask about the name which lots of people now pronounce in the same way as Hollywood is pronounced. Back in the old days, the name Holywood was rather Sanctus Boscus, which means Holy Wood, and it was given to this place by the Normans after the woodland surrounding the monastery founded by St. Laseran before 640.
There are different interesting things that might be held in this town, such as the jazz and blues festival which is held there. There are other things that distinguish this town as well, such as the distinctive building known as the Old Priory. Even though this might sometimes be mistaken for the famous Hollywood in the United States of America, it is also considered one of the most visited towns in county Down for the fashion boutiques that it has, the delis and the galleries.
Holywood is also one of Northern Ireland's famous towns and places because it boasts Ireland's only surviving Maypole dating back to 1700 when a Dutch ship ran aground offshore and as a show of gratitude, they erected their broken mast.
