Lovosice is a small town in northern Bohemia, the western part of the Czech Republic. Geographic coordinates of Lovosice are: latitude 50° 51' and longitude: 14° 05'. Lovosice is located on the left bank of the Labe River, at the northern border of the Labe lowlands and at the southern foot of Bohemian Highlands . The closest mountain is Lovoš. 1. Theresienstadt Concentration Camp Terezin
Theresienstadt was a hybrid concentration camp and ghetto established by the SS during World War II in the fortress town Terezín, located in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . Theresienstadt served two main purposes: it was simultaneously a waystation to the extermination camps, and a retirement settlement for elderly and prominent Jews to mislead their communities about the Final Solution. Its conditions were deliberately engineered to hasten the death of its prisoners, and the camp also served a propaganda role. Unlike most other concentration camps, the exploitation of forced labor was not economically significant. The camp was established by a transport of Czech Jews in November 1941. This is part 2 of 5 showing a driver's view of Czech Hwy. 4 in the Czech Republic between Prague and the German border. The date is July 5, 2017 and we are headed towards Passau, Germany to begin our Viking Danube Waltz Cruise. This was a generally scenic drive and I am thrilled to have been able to capture as much of it from the front seat of the bus as I did. The 4 lane part of this road is Motorway D4 while the 2 lane part is just regular Czech Hwy. 4.
