Lubumbashi is the mining capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, acting as a hub for many of the country's biggest mining companies. The copper-mining city serves as the capital of the relatively prosperous Haut-Katanga Province and is near the border with Zambia. Population estimates vary widely but average around 1.5 million.

    The Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral or simply Cathedral of Lubumbashi, is the name given to a religious building belonging to the Catholic Church and is located between the Kapenda and Kasa Vubu avenues of the city of Lubumbashi in southern part of African country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, specifically in High Katanga province. Nearby is the Convent of St. Peter and St. Paul and several provincial government buildings. Its history dates back to 1920, follows the Roman or Latin rite and functions as the headquarters of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Lubumbashi which was created in 1959 by the Bull Cum parvulum of Pope John XXIII. It is under the pastoral responsibility of the Bishop Jean-Pierre Tafunga.
