    Taga Castle is the site of a Nara period jōsaku-style Japanese castle in what is now part of the town of Tagajō in Miyagi prefecture in the Tōhoku region of far northern Honshu, Japan. Bashō tells of his visit to the site in Oku no Hosomichi. The ruins of Taga-jō and its former temple have been designated a Special Historic Site .

    Sendai Daikannon is a large statue of the gem-bearing Nyoirin Kannon form of Kannon , located in Sendai, Japan. It is the tallest statue of Nyoirin Kannon in the world, and the tallest statue of a goddess in Japan. As of 2018, it is one of the top five tallest statues in the world at 100 metres . At the time of its completion in 1991 it was the tallest statue in the world, but has since been surpassed for that title. An elevator takes visitors to the top of the statue, which depicts the Bodhisattva Kannon from Shingon Buddhism. This statue of Kannon bears the Nyoihōju wishing gem in her hand, which classifies her as a version of the Nyoirin Kannon form of Kannon.
