Occidental Mindoro is a province in the Philippines located in the MIMAROPA region. The province occupies the western half of the island of Mindoro. Its capital is Mamburao but the largest municipality is San Jose. As of 2015, Occidental Mindoro has 487,414 inhabitants. The province is bordered on the east by the province of Oriental Mindoro, and on the south by the Mindoro Strait. The South China Sea is to the west of the province and Palawan is located to the southwest, across the Mindoro Strait. Batangas is to the north, separated by the Verde Island Passage, a protected marine area and the center of the center of the world's marine biodiversity.

  • 2. Apo Reef Light Sablayan
    Apo Reef is a coral reef system in the Philippines situated on the western waters of Occidental Mindoro province in the Mindoro Strait. Encompassing 34 square kilometres , it is by no means the world's second-largest contiguous coral reef system, but is the largest in the country. The reef and its surrounding waters are protected areas in the country administered as the Apo Reef Natural Park . It is one of the best known and most popular dive sites in the country. It is listed in the tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
