Children's day in Thailand - CSR Co van Kessel
Thailand National Children's Day (Thai: วันเด็กแห่งชาติ) is celebrated on the second Saturday in January. Known as Wan Dek in Thailand, Children’s Day is celebrated to give children the opportunity to have fun and to create awareness about their significant role towards the development of the country. It was established as a holiday in 1955.
Usually, His Majesty the King gives advice addressing the children while the Supreme Monarch Patriarch of Thailand gives a moral teaching. The Prime Minister also usually gives each Children's Day a theme and a slogan.
Many Government offices are open to children and their family; this includes the Government House, the Parliament House Complex and various Military installations. These events may include a guided tour and an exhibition. A notable example is the guided tour at the Government House, where children have an opportunity to view the Prime Minister's office and sit at the bureau. The Royal Thai Air Force usually invites children to go and explore the aircraft and the Bangkok Bank distributes stationery, such as pens, pencils and books to every child that enters the bank as a community service. Many organizations from both government and commercial sectors have celebration activities for children. Children can enter zoos or ride buses for free.
There is a Thai saying that states, Children are the future of the nation, if the children are intelligent, the country will be prosperous.

Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.

Phliu Waterfall: Great Place For 1 Day Trip
Thailand has many waterfalls. All of them are beautiful, but the point sometime you need to drive long time to reach one. They are hidden in National Parks, Islands, Mountains etc.
One of the greatest waterfalls is Phliu. It's located in Chanthaburi district, which is 150 km from Pattaya and 250 km from Bangkok. It's great place to go for 1 day weekend.
Waterfall is open everyday from 8am till 5 pm. Entrance fee is 200 THB for foreigner. They don't accept work-permit or Thai driver license as discount.
Any food and drinks are not allowed to be taken to the waterfall territory.

Chiang Mai is a beautiful city of northern Thailand, surround by beautiful hills & one of the popular tourist destination in Southeast Asia. A seven members team, Prayas Group of Hakha, Patan, went to Thailand Visit this summer. And Chiang Mai is our second destination of trip. We surprised by the beauty of this reason. Dinner at Karen Hill Tribe Village, Ban Hua Nam, Thailand
Karen people reside primarily in Karen State, southern and southeastern Myanmar. A large number of them have migrated to Thailand, having settled mostly on the Thailand–Myanmar border due to conflicts. The majority of Karen people are Theravada Buddhists who also practice animism and the people have their own languages. Different Karen languages have formed because of isolation to other tribes. Karen people live in small hill-tribe villages isolated from the modern world. Although, today, a large number of them have left their villages and rural lifestyle to work or study in cities.
The only way to get to this particular Karen Village in Mae Hong Son Province of Thailand, close to the boarder of Myanmar is by foot through the deep jungle. To have a look at actual rural Thailand, we hiked ~15km for 6h through the jungle and rivers to get to Ban Hua Nam, which is inhabited by 20-something Karen people.
There is no electricity or shops and the people of Ban Hua Nam live close to earth and nature, farming their own vegetables and animals, as well as, living off what the jungle provides, which is a vast variety of delicious vegetables or animals. River frogs are easy to hunt and good for protein, thus, a staple of the diet in the village.
The great taste is only a bonus!
