Patan district is one of the 33 districts of Gujarat state in western India. This district is located in northern Gujarat and bounded by Banaskantha district in the north and northeast, Mehsana district in the east and southeast, Surendranagar district in the south and Kutch District and the Kutch nu Nanu Ran in the west. The district occupies an area of 5792 km². Some of its areas, Harij and Sami, bordering Kutch are quite sensitive as there is no settled population between there and the border of Pakistan even though geographically the border is quite some distance away.

  • 2. Rudra Mahalaya Sidhpur
    The Rudra Mahalaya Temple, also known as Rudramal, is a destroyed/desecrated temple complex at Siddhpur in the Patan district of Gujarat, India. Its construction was started in 943 AD by Mularaja and completed in 1140 AD by Jayasimha Siddharaja, the rulers of the Chaulukya dynasty. The temple was destroyed by Alauddin Khalji, and later Ahmed Shah I desecrated and substantially demolished this temple, and also converted part of it into the congregational mosque of the city. Two torans and four pillars of the former central structure still stand along with western part of the complex used as a congregational mosque.

  • 3. Modhera Sun Temple Modhera
    The Sun Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the solar deity Surya located at Modhera village of Mehsana district, Gujarat, India. It is situated on the bank of the river Pushpavati. It was built after 1026-27 CE during the reign of Bhima I of the Chaulukya dynasty. No worship is offered now and is protected monument maintained by Archaeological Survey of India. The temple complex has three components: Gudhamandapa, the shrine hall; Sabhamandapa, the assembly hall and Kunda, the reservoir. The halls have intricately carved exterior and pillars. The reservoir has steps to reach bottom and numerous small shrines.
