Pößneck is a town in the Saale-Orla-Kreis district, in Thuringia, Germany. It is situated 19 km east of Rudolstadt, and 26 km south of Jena. Its chief industries are the making of flannel, porcelain, furniture, machines, musical instruments and chocolate. The town has also tanneries, breweries, dyeworks and brickworks. Pößneck, which is of Slavonic origin, passed about 1300 to the Landgrave of Thuringia. Later it belonged to Saxony and later still to the duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, passing to Saxe-Meiningen in 1826. A Gothic church built about 1390 now serves a Lutheran congregation. Castle Colditz is a Renaissance castle in the town of Colditz near Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz in the state of Saxony in Germany. The castle is between the towns of Hartha and Grimma on a hill spur over the river Zwickauer Mulde, a tributary of the River Elbe. It had the first wildlife park in Germany when, during 1523, the castle park was converted into one of the largest menageries in Europe. The castle gained international fame as the site of Oflag IV-C, a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II for incorrigible Allied officers who had repeatedly escaped from other camps.

Der Baumkronenpfad Hainich bei Bad Langensalza, ist der zweitlängste und höchste Baumkronenpfad in Deutschland.
Er wurde als zweiter Baumkronenpfad Deutschlands im Sommer 2005 eröffnet und befindet sich nahe dem Forsthaus Thiemsburg im gleichnamigen Waldgebiet des Hainich, zehn Kilometer westlich der Kurstadt Bad Langensalza-Thüringen.
Der Baumkronenpfad liegt in einem alten Buchenurwald und führt direkt duch die Gipfel.
Er führt von einer Höhe von 10 m auf 24 m und ist der Fauna im Nationalpark gewidmet. Die zweite ca. 240 m lange Schleife wurde im Mai 2009 eröffnet und gilt dem Urwald.
In Deutschland gibt es derzeit 12 Baumkronenpfade.

Großzöbern is located in the southern part of Saxony, very close to the former inter German border but within East Germany/ Curious to find relics of the period, including the exact location of the border I visit the village to see what I can find. As it turns out I find next to nothing!
