Portumna is a market town in the south-east of County Galway, Ireland, on the border with and linked by a bridge to County Tipperary. The town is located to the west of the point where the River Shannon enters Lough Derg. This historic crossing point over the River Shannon between counties Tipperary and Galway has a long history of bridges and ferry crossings. On the south-western edge of the town lie Portumna Castle and Portumna forest park.

1. Burren National Park Corofin
The Burren is a region of environmental interest primarily located in northwestern County Clare, Ireland, dominated by glaciated karst landscape. It measures, depending on the definition, between 250 square kilometres and 560 square kilometres . The name is most often applied to the area within the circle made by the villages of Tubber, Corofin, Kilfenora, Lisdoonvarna, and Ballyvaughan, and Kinvara in extreme south-eastern Galway, including the adjacent coastline..A part of the Burren forms the Burren National Park, the smallest of the six National Parks in Ireland, while the full Burren and adjacent territory including the Cliffs of Moher are included in the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.

We hope you enjoy this photo presentation of our 2012 Ireland trip up the River Shannon on an Emerald Star boat through lock after lock from Portumna to Enniskillen (a town in Northern Ireland) to a final destination at Carrick-on-Shannon.

The video scene in the middle with the man playing the special Irish drum instrument, a Bodhran, was taken at J.J. Hough's Singing Pub - a must-go-to place on a rive trip up the Shannon through Ireland.

Our 10 day trip to Ireland recorded with the GoPro Hero 5 Black. Went from, Dublin, Kilkenny, Kinsale, Killarney, Galway, Belfast, and back to Dublin. Heavily relied on Rick Steves Ireland 2017 book and the National Geographic Ireland Adventure Map!

I would HIGHLY recommend seeing Ireland by Campervan!
We rented one for 5 days and while we were there we stopped in Galway: Duh Ed Sheeran,
Sligo and Strandhill: an awesome surfer town,
Donegal: a surprise music street festival,
Slieve League: which has bigger and badder cliffs than the Cliffs of Moher - don't be basic- and an incredible hike to single man's pass,
Belfast for some knowledge and in history (and I'm not even a history person!!

We chose to visit the less visited Northern part of Ireland and after talking to several Irish they could not agree more!
