Sagrado Corazón de Jesus/Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Verbo Divino 499 (on a hill). Designated as a national historical site, this church was built by the German colonizers in 1915. It's the third catholic Church that Puerto Varas has had. The building was constructed of oak frames and corrugated iron sidings. The church was modelled after the Marienkirche in the German Black Forest.

There are many options of day trips and adventures available from Puerto Varas. The Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, including the Petrohué falls and Lake Todos los Santos, is about 70 km. from Puerto Varas. Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes are nearby. Mt. Osorno has a road to the base of a chairlift which is open all year round, for skiing in winter and sightseeing in summer. There are also good nearby destinations for trekking, flyfishing, rafting, kayaking and other adventures nearby.

Budget Travel in Puerto Varas, Chile
Exploring Puerto Varas on a budget, here are some things to see/do and we included the cost.

We made it to Puerto Varas, Chile. Bad jokes and all.
This morning we left Argentina and made the trip into Chile. It's so good to be back in a country I really loved and have spent a lot of time in. It's also nice to be back in Puerto Varas as I haven't been here for over 6 years. I'm obviously looking to improve on my imagery from last time while I'm here.
So, Greg and I got settled in town at our hostel (mamahostels) and then headed off to do a little bit of exploring in Puerto Varas. I also explained a little bit what Greg's role is in the vlog and the channel right now and on this Patagonia trip.
Then, in the early evening we headed down to the waterfront to shoot some photos of Osorno Volcano from the shores of the lake. The photos from Puerto Varas came out pretty nice I think, as the light was smacking the volcano really impressively. And, it was a beautiful day to top it all off.
In the evening, we retreated back to Mamahostels and had ourselves a bit of a friendly game of ping pong. A great way to cap off a pretty amazing first travel vlog in Chile.
Tomorrow, we have another day here in Puerto Varas, Chile and are actually picking up a camper van to start our road trip.

The Carretera Austral is a mostly unpaved road that connects the most rural part of Patagonia in the very south of Chile. Tourism in this area is not as pronounced as it is in other parts of the country, as regular bus routes, accommodations and detailed info is hard to find.
But in this seclusion lies the attraction and a special charm. During my last trip I met very few travelers from Europe and North America. The locals welcomed me warmly and most attractions were not crowded.
After traveling this route twice via hitchhiking I thought it is about time that I put together a handy Carretera Austral guide which highlights the main sights along this 1200km long road. The video shows you my favorite places to visit from north to south, starting in Puerto Montt and finishing in Villa O’Higgins.
To do the Ruta 7 properly I recommend about 2 weeks - following I list all the places I visited & Things to do along the Carretera Austral:

Roteiro Puerto Varas - Chile
Resumo da viagem para Puerto Varas e Região em Abril de 2018. Conhecemos também: Llanquihue, Frutillar, Vulcão Osorno, Saltos del Petrohué, Lago Todos los Santos, Peulla, Ensenada e Puerto Montt. Fizemos várias atividades nesses locais, descritas no roteiro abaixo.
Roteiro:
Viagem realizada entre os dias 11/04/2018 e 20/04/2018.
1º dia – 11/04/2018:
Chegamos à Puerto Montt por volta das 19 horas e ficamos hospedados no Hotel Ibis Puerto Montt.
2º dia – 12/04/2018:
Conhecemos um pouco da cidade e fomos trocar alguns Dólares por Peso Chileno. Em seguida fomos retirar o carro que alugamos na Europcar. Antes de seguirmos para Puerto Varas, almoçamos e fomos comprar alguns alimentos no mercado.
Seguimos para Puerto Varas e, em cerca de 40 min, chegamos ao Hotel Dein Haus.
3º dia – 13/04/2018:
Fomos conhecer Llanquihue e Frutillar. Em Llanquihue conhecemos a orla do lago e seguimos para Frutillar onde almoçamos e passamos o resto do dia caminhando por lá.
Retornamos à noite para Puerto Varas e fomos reservar o Passeio à Peulla para o dia seguinte. Contratamos o pacote com a empresa TurisTour.
4º dia – 14/04/2018:
Para realizar o passeio de Catamarã contratado com a TurisTour (Petrohué x Peulla), fomos de carro até Petrohué e gastamos cerca de 1:15 hs. O Catamarã saiu do Porto de Petrohué às 10:30 hs. Navegamos no Lago Todos los Santos e chegamos à Peulla por volta de 12:20 hs.
Almoçamos no Hotel Natura e às 14:30 iniciamos o Tour 4x4 (contratado também com a TurisTour). O Tour 4x4 inicia no Hotel Natura, atravessou algumas vezes dentro do rio até chegar à Fazenda onde fez a primeira parada. Em seguida, seguiu para um rio onde um pequeno catamarã estava preparado para uma navegação que durou cerca de 30 min em um rio muito silencioso ao redor da Cordilheira dos Andes.
Por fim, voltamos ao 4x4 que nos deixou no Porto de Peulla onde tomamos novamente o Catamarã e navegamos por mais 1:45 hs no Lago de Todos Los Santos até o Porto de Petrohué.
5º dia – 15/04/2018:
Deixamos o Hotel Dein Haus e fomos conhecer os Saltos del Petrohué pela manhã. No caminho para Ensenada paramos no Ko´KayaK e reservamos um horário para realizar o Rafting no rio Petrohué.
Seguimos para os Saltos e passamos o resto da manhã por lá. Às 14:30 voltamos para a base da Ko´KayaK para nos prepararmos para o Rafting. Após instruções e preparação dos equipamentos, fomos de van para o ponto de partida no Rio Petrohué. O rafting durou cerca de 1:00 h e foi sensacional.
Após o rafting fomos para Puerto Clocker e ficamos hospedados no Block House Lodge.
6º dia – 16/04/2018:
Pela manhã fomos conhecer Las Cascadas, em Ensenada. Fizemos uma trilha tranquila até chegar à maior cascata.
Em seguida, fomos para o Vulcão Osorno onde passamos o restante da tarde. Fizemos o passeio de Teleférico que durou cerca de 1:00 h e nos levou bem próximo do topo do Vulcão.
Retornamos à Puerto Clocker.
7º dia – 17/04/2018:
Seguimos para Puerto Varas, mas agora, passando pelo outro lado do Lago Llanquihue. Conhecemos Puerto Octay e passamos novamente por Frutillar e Llanquihue.
Ao chegar em Puerto Varas, fomos para o Hotel Puerto Chico.
8º dia – 18/04/2018:
Alugamos duas mountain bikes na loja La Monarca e fomos fazer um passeio no caminho de Ensenda.
Pedalamos cerca de 40 km e, no fim da tarde, voltamos para Puerto Varas.
9º dia – 19/04/2018:
Fomos no Parque Nacional Alerce Andino que fica em Puerto Montt. O parque tem várias trilhas, com diversos graus de dificuldade. No fim da tarde retornamos para Puerto Varas para devolver o carro e preparar as malas.
10º dia – 20/04/2018:
Dia de voltar para Casa. Puerto Varas – Santiago – Brasil.
Puerto Varas e seu entorno possuem atrações surpreendentes. São lugares bem estruturados para o turismo. Possuem ótimas opções de hospedagem e várias opções de restaurantes.
Tem opção para todos os gostos, para aqueles que gostam de um lugar tranquilo e aconchegante como para aqueles, como nós, que curtem uma boa aventura.
A dica é tentar programar uma época do ano que chova menos, já que 70% do ano chove. Dos dias que ficamos por lá, apenas um choveu.
Conseguimos fazer todas as atividades planejadas com dias bem bonitos de sol.
¿QUE RECORRER EN EL LAGO LLANQUIHUE?
El Lago Llanquihue es el segundo lago más grande de chile, con una extensión de 877 kilómetros cuadrados, el Lago Llanquihue es el recurso hidrográfico más grande del país después del Lago General Carrera. Su vegetación siempreverde de olivillos, lengas, alerces, coigües, arbustos y helechos, son uno de sus principales atractivos, además de sus hermosas aguas aptas para la práctica de deportes náuticos. La fauna es también característica y cuenta con zorros, güiñas, chingues, cernícalos y torcazas. Si visita el Lago Llanquihue, también podrá disfrutar de las bellezas arquitectónicas de la zona, sobre todo de la arquitectura de rasgo alemán en Puerto Varas, Puerto Octay y Frutillar y también de playas.
Templado de tipo lluvioso. Las precipitaciones tienen lugar durante todo el año y aumentan de norte a sur. La amplitud térmica asciende hacia el interior y son moderadas a causa de la influencia del mar.
Puedes llegar Vía aérea al Aeropuerto El Tepual en Puerto Montt y a los aeródromos en Frutillar y Puerto Varas.
