Purleigh is a village on the Dengie peninsula about 4 miles south of Maldon in the English county of Essex. The village is part of the Purleigh ward of the Maldon district.The place-name 'Purleigh' is first attested in a charter of 998, where it appears as Purlea. In the Domesday Book of 1086 it appears as Purlai. The name means 'bittern clearing'.

1. The Historic Dockyard Chatham Chatham
Chatham Dockyard was a Royal Navy Dockyard located on the River Medway in Kent. Established in Chatham in the mid-16th century, the dockyard subsequently expanded into neighbouring Gillingham . It came into existence at the time when, following the Reformation, relations with the Catholic countries of Europe had worsened, leading to a requirement for additional defences. For 414 years Chatham Royal Dockyard provided over 500 ships for the Royal Navy, and was at the forefront of shipbuilding, industrial and architectural technology. At its height, it employed over 10,000 skilled artisans and covered 400 acres . Chatham dockyard closed in 1984, and 84 acres of the Georgian dockyard is now managed as a visitor attraction by the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust.

St Peter's Way: Chipping Ongar To Margaretting 4 September 2015

The St. Peter's Way is a 45 mile long distance footpath running between Chipping Ongar and the ancient chapel of St. Peter On The Wall at Bradwell on Sea Essex. This walk is the 10.5 mile section of the path from Chipping Ongar to where it joins the old A12 road at Margaretting. The walk goes through the lovely village of Blackmore. The walk took place in cloudy, but dry, weather (despite the forecast of showers) on Friday 4 September 2015.
