    Qaidam Basin, also spelled Tsaidam is an hyperarid basin that occupies a large part of the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province, western China. The basin covers an area of approximately 120,000 km2, one fourth of which is covered by saline lakes and playas. By one count, there are 27 such lakes in the basin. Around 35,000 square kilometers, or one third of the basin is desert, which is known in Chinese as Chaidamu Pendi Shamo , i.e. Qaidam Basin Desert. The Qaidam Basin forms a sort of shelf on the northeast side of the Tibetan Plateau.     Qinghai Lake , Koko Nor or Tso Ngonpo is the largest lake in China. Located in Qinghai province on an endorheic basin, Qinghai Lake is classified as a saline and alkaline lake. Qinghai Lake has a surface area of 4,317 square kilometres ; an average depth of 21 metres , and a maximum depth of 25.5 m as measured in 2008. The current Chinese name Qinghai, the older Mongolian name Kokonor, and the Tibetan name translate to Green Sea, Blue Lake and Teal Sea, respectively.     The Zhangye National Geopark is located in Sunan and Linze counties within the prefecture-level city of Zhangye, in Gansu, China. It covers an area of 322 square kilometres . The site became a quasi-national geopark on April 23, 2012 . It was formally designated as Zhangye National Geopark by the Ministry of Land and Resources on June 16, 2016 after it has passed the on-site acceptance test. Known for its colorful rock formations, it has been voted by Chinese media outlets as one of the most beautiful landforms in China.
