Raigad District is a district in the state of Maharashtra, India. Formerly called the Kolaba district, the district was renamed after Raigad, the fort that was the former capital of the Maratha Empire founder and leader Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and is located in the interior regions of the district, in dense forests on a west-facing spur of the Western Ghats of Sahyadri Range. In 2011 the district had a population of 2,635,394, compared to 2,207,929 in 2001. The name was changed in the regime of Chief Minister Antule on 1st Jan 1981.   • 1. Morbe Dam Raigad
    Morbe Dam is a gravity dam on the Dhavari river near Khalapur, Raigad district in the state of Maharashtra, India. The Morbe lake is the main water source for the city of Navi Mumbai. It was built by the Water Supply and Sanitation Department of the Government of Maharashtra. Construction of the Morbe dam began in 1999 to supply drinking water to the Navi Mumbai and Nhava Sheva regions. According to the 1981 census, about 2,897 persons living in 11 villages were affected by the project. In 2002, the Government permitted the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to take over the Morbe dam, which was previously owned by Riya Patel.
