Ravenstein is a city and a former municipality in the south of the Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant. The former municipality covered an area of 42.68 km² . In 2003 it was incorporated into the city of Oss. Ravenstein also included the following towns, villages and townships: Demen, Dennenburg, Deursen, Dieden, Herpen, Huisseling, Keent, Koolwijk, Neerlangel, Neerloon, Overlangel. There is also a primary school called 'Ravenstein', in Flushing . Ravenstein received city rights in 1380. Dieden, Demen en Langel was a separate municipality until 1923, when it was merged with Ravenstein.

1. Keukenhof Lisse
Keukenhof , also known as the Garden of Europe, is one of the world's largest flower gardens, situated in Lisse, South Holland, Netherlands. According to the official website for the Keukenhof Park, approximately 7 million flower bulbs are planted annually in the park, which covers an area of 32 hectares .Keukenhof is located in South Holland, south of Haarlem and southwest of Amsterdam. It is accessible by bus from the train stations of Haarlem, Leiden and Schiphol. It is located in an area called the Dune and Bulb Region . Keukenhof is open annually from mid-March to mid-May. The best time to view the tulips is around mid-April, depending on the weather.

I apologize for the not always thát smooth roads: on some moments there are filmparts which jump too much.... TrainTravel is so much easier to film because of the really smooth railroads....

Oss Tumuli Maashorst Netherlands

The area around Oss -- on the higher side of the Peel fault boundary, favoured by the early bronze age farmers. This tumuli burial ground - which was first used some 2600 year ago - is known as Maashorst. Some of the tumuli are surrounded by poles. Between 1 100 BCE and approx 600BCE the area was used as an urnfield. This video shows the are a few months after a major restoration, the area will be planted again.
The are is also crossed by a more recent 'monument' a medieval landweer (defence wall) that was used to stop the Gelre troops from entering Brabant, Oss was a frontier city in those days.

Delta Works Flood Protection, Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt Delta, Netherlands

Delta Works is a massive chain of flood protection structures that were constructed after the occurrence of the North Sea flood of 1953. The flood led to 8,361 fatalities and flooded nine percent of the farmland in the Netherlands.
The project comprised of laying 13 dams, including barriers, sluices, locks, dikes and levees, to reduce the Dutch coastline’s size and protect the areas within and around the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta from North Sea floods.
The project was finally completed in 1997, at a cost of $5bn. The project was undertaken by the Department of Waterways and Public Works. The infrastructure provides flood protection, fresh drinking water and irrigation. The risk of flooding was reduced to one in 4,000 years.
Delta Works is recognised as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. It included laying of 10,250 miles of dikes and around 300 structures.

Kasteel en Landgoed Groeneveld bij Baarn Nederland

Kasteel Groeneveld is een landgoed in de gemeente Baarn. Het is in gebruik als Buitenplaats voor stad en land van Staatsbosbeheer. Een lange oprijlaan vanaf de Amsterdamsestraatweg vormt de zichtas van het landgoed. Deze zichtas loopt via de gang op de bel-etage door tot ongeveer twee kilometer in de bossen achter het kasteel. Vroeger liep de zichtas zelfs door tot de Monnikenberg richting Hilversum.

In de zeventiende en achttiende eeuw was het gebruikelijk voor rijke Amsterdammers om een buitenplaats aan te schaffen waar tijdens de zomer kon worden verpoosd. Vaak liggen deze buitens op de grens van zand- en veengrond. De landgoederen in 't Gooi ('s-Graveland), langs de Vecht en aan de binnenduinrand (de Keukenhof) zijn hier voorbeelden van.

Het landgoed rond het kasteel is ongeveer 130 ha en wordt beheerd door Staatsbosbeheer. Het park van kasteel Groeneveld werd aangelegd in de Hollandse Barokke stijl, die wordt gekenmerkt door strenge geometrische vormen en imponerende oprijlanen.
Toen in de achttiende en negentiende eeuw de Engelse landschapsstijl opgeld deed, werd het park omgevormd. Waterpartijen, heuvels, slingerende paden en boompartijen werden aangelegd. Vooral na 1830 werd de landschapsstijl in Groeneveld geperfectioneerd. Ook werd er een ijskelder aangelegd. Deze bestaat nog en wordt nu bewoond door grootoorvleermuizen.
Nadat de tuin tientallen jaren was verwaarloosd, werd hij eind 70'er jaren door Michael van Gessel gerestaureerd, waarbij hij de landschapsstijlen uit de verschillende perioden intact liet en samenbracht tot een geheel.
