Republic of Bashkortostan
The Republic of Bashkortostan is located between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains. Over half its territory is covered with thick forests.
The republic's major river, the Belaya and around three thousand lakes are abundant with rare species of fish. Bashkortostan is home to a number of national wildlife reserves and parks. Among them is the Urals' largest cave network, Capova, which stretches underground for about 3 kilometers. In summer, history fans can go cycling along mountains paths that used to be followed by nomads and gold hunters. In winter, Bashkiria's ski slopes are its most popular destination.
