Basel Switzerland
Basel is a city in northwestern Switzerland on the river Rhine. Basel is Switzerland's third-most-populous city (after Zürich and Geneva) with about 175,000 inhabitants.
Located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet, Basel also has suburbs in France and Germany. In 2014, the Basel agglomeration was the third largest in Switzerland with a population of 537,100 in 74 municipalities in Switzerland and an additional 53 in neighboring countries (municipal count as of 2000).The official language of Basel is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.
The city is known for its many internationally renowned museums, ranging from the Kunstmuseum, the first collection of art accessible to the public in Europe (1661) and the largest museum of art in the whole of Switzerland, to the Fondation Beyeler (located in Riehen). The University of Basel, founded in 1460, Switzerland's oldest university and the city's centuries long commitment to humanism, have made Basel a safe haven during times of political unrest in other parts of Europe to the likes of Erasmus of Rotterdam, the Holbein family, and more recently also to Hermann Hesse and Karl Jaspers.
Basel has been the seat of a Prince-Bishopric since the 11th century, and joined the Swiss Confederacy in 1501. The city has been a commercial hub and important cultural centre since the Renaissance, and has emerged as a centre for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry in the 20th century. In 1897, the city was chosen as the location for the first World Zionist Congress by Theodor Herzl, and all together the congress has taken place in Basel for ten times over a time span of 50 years, more than in any other city in the world. The city is also home to the worldwide seat of the Bank for International Settlements.
Today the city of Basel, together with two other Swiss cities Zürich and Geneva, is counted among the cities with the highest standards of living in the world.

Bâle: l'amour de l'ar(t)chitecture
Avec le nouveau bâtiment du Kunstmuseum, Bâle s'enrichit d'un nouveau joyau pour l'art. Mais la ville compte de nombreux trésors dans ce domaine, ainsi que pour l'architecture ou le design. Suggestions de découvertes pour un week-end.
Renzo Piano, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, mais évidemment aussi Herzog & De Meuron et désormais Christ & Gantenbein: avec le nouveau bâtiment du Kunstmuseum, Bâle rajoute un nouveau bâtiment emblématique à la très riche collection du patrimoine architectural de la ville rhénane. Ouvert au printemps, il permet d'élargir l'éventail des oeuvres présentées par la prestigieuse institution.
Mais l'architecture ambitieuse est une tradition à Bâle. A l'abri des murailles et des portes médiévales, de nombreuses signatures prestigieuses ont marqué le tissu urbanistique de leur empreinte. Et les grandes entreprises locales ne sont pas en reste: Roche a bâti la plus haute tour de Suisse, Novartis développe son campus avec des constructions majeures sur les bords du Rhin, Vitra a fait appel à des grands noms de l'architecture mondiale pour son campus à Weil am Rhein,...
A côté de l'architecture, Bâle soigne aussi son histoire d'amour avec l'art, à travers de nombreuses institutions dévolues à la culture. Et tout ceci sans oublier le design. Avec Vitra bien évidemment, mais aussi grâce à de nombreux créateurs installés en pleine ville et dont les boutiques regorgent de trésors.

Le canton du Tessin (TI) en Suisse :
Peter le nain de jardin fugueur part aujourd'hui à la découverte du canton du Tessin (Ticino). Il nous emmène :
À travers le tunnel du Gothard, le plus long tunnel routier du monde.
À Locarno au bord du lac Majeur (Lago Maggiore) et sa Piazza Grande.
À la Vallemaggia (Valle Maggia) et à Bosco Gurin, le village le plus élevé du Tessin (1500m) où l'on parle un dialecte alémanique.
À Lugano, la plus importante ville du canton du Tessin.
Á Campione d'Italia au bord du lac de Lugano, une enclave italienne en territoire suisse.
À Melide au parc d'attraction Swissminiatur (Suisse Miniature) où l'on peut observer les principaux bâtiments et monuments suisses à l'échelle 1:25.

Coucou la Suisse dans les Grisons : Coire, Davos et le Parc national à Zernez
Le canton des Grisons (GR) en Suisse :
Peter, le nain de jardin fugueur, part aujourd'hui à la découverte du grand canton des Grisons (Graubünden). Il nous emmène :
À Coire (Chur), chef-lieu du canton.
À Davos, une ville dans la montagne.
Au Col de la Flüela, capuns grischuns et viande séchée.
En Engadine, pays du romanche.
À Lavin, décor du film Heidi.
À Zernez, parc national suisse.
Peter, le plus célèbre des nains de jardin, nous emmène dans le plus grand canton suisse : Les Grisons. Ils occupent à eux seuls un sixième de tout le pays.
Coire est le chef-lieu. 34 000 habitants au pied des montagnes, dans la vallée du Rhin. Pour partir à la découverte de vallées les plus fascinantes, il faut s'écarter de l'autoroute et emprunter les petites routes de montagne.
A 2383m, Peter atteint le col de la Flüela, le sommet le plus élevé des Grisons, ouvert au trafic automobile. Une mère et sa fille y tiennent un hospice chaleureux qui propose aux gourmands les spécialités de la région : coppa, viande séchée, jambon cru mais aussi les moins célèbres capuns grischuns.
L'estomac plein, Peter arrive en Engadine et franchit la frontière entre la langue allemande et la langue romanche. C'est la 4e langue nationale suisse, 40 000 personnes la parlent, dans les vallées de l'Engadine et de l'Oberland grison. A Lavin aussi, un village carte postale, décor du film Heidi.
A quelques kilomètres de la frontière italienne, Zernez nous ouvre les portes de la plus grande réserve naturelle du pays, l'unique parc national suisse. L'homme n'a pas le droit d'y intervenir, c'est un projet scientifique de longue haleine qui permet d'observer la forêt laissée à son évolution naturelle.
