Hoddesdon is a town in the Broxbourne borough of the English county of Hertfordshire, situated in the Lea Valley. It grew up as a coaching stop on the route between Cambridge and London. It is located 3 miles (5 km) West of Harlow 4 miles (6 km) southeast of Hertford, 5 miles (8 km) north of Waltham Cross and 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Bishop's Stortford.
At its height during the 18th century, more than 35 coaches a day passed through the town. It saw a boom in the mid 20th century as gravel was extracted from the area, but was exhausted by the 1970s. The lakes and water pits left behind have been used as leisure amenities. Today, Hoddesdon has a little light industry but is mainly a London commuter belt town. The town hosted the eighth Congrès International d'Architecture Moderne in 1951. It is twinned with the Belgian city of Dinant. The Prime Meridian passes just to the east of Hoddesdon. The town is served by Rye House railway station and nearby Broxbourne railway station.
The name Hoddesdon is believed to be derived from a Saxon or Danish personal name combined with the Old English suffix don, meaning a down or hill. The earliest historical reference to the name is in the Domesday Book within the hundred of Hertford.
Hoddesdon was situated about 20 miles (32 km) north of London on the main road to Cambridge and to the north.
Hoddesdon High Street has many shops, including fast food outlets, pubs, estate agents, charity shops, banks, travel agents and a library. At the north of the High Street behind the Clock Tower was the Tower Centre shopping centre, which was known for its high turnover of stores and distinct lack of tenants. In the early 2000s, it underwent a major refurbishment, in hope of attracting large national retailers, but its remaining tenants, including Argos and Superdrug, vacated the premises after Sky City Chinese restaurant closed down, and the Woolworths outlet went into liquidation. In 2012, the old shopping centre was demolished and replaced by a new Morrisons supermarket, which opened in late 2013. The remaining pavilion of the old Tower Centre is currently occupied by Electric Punch Tattoo shop, a fried chicken takeaway, Timpsons cobbler, Vintage Rock beauticians, a nail bar, Roberts and Co chartered accountants, Costa Coffee, a real estate agent's office, and a shop belonging to Broxbourne council.
Hoddesdon contains a small part of Ringway 4, part of the 1960s London Ringways scheme and the only part built north of London further east than Watford. Linking the town to the A10, the A1170 Dinant Link Road has an overly large junction between the link road and the A10, and was built with space available to continue the road westward over the A10 as originally planned.

Viewing Park:
Entry is free. Parking costs £5 for 2 hours, £10 for 4 hours and £12 for the remainder of the day. Parking is normally free with any Concorde or Nimrod booking, though check when you book. Public transport options are available.
Airport Pub:
Entry is free. Parking costs £1.50 per hour. Coin only Pay and Display and the car park fills up fast. The nearest Metrolink stop is Shadowmoss, approximately half a mile away from the pub.

A very Manchesterish day. Very grey, dull and soaking Monday morning at Manchester Airport on June 20th 2016; The first official day of summer...
Believe it or not I had actually checked the weather before I went, it didn't quite mention the persistent heavy rain all morning. Something along the lines of a shower with sunny intervals. Well the sunny intervals part was a lie. I stayed just under 2 hours, by which point I was drenched, from head to toe soaked. Despite that, I managed to get some great footage in the rain! Lots of spray and fantastic water effects made getting drenched almost worth while.

Manchester Airport Visitors Centre or Manchester Airport Visitors Park or Manchester Aviation Centre.Runway Visitors Park. Manchester Airport has had public viewing areas since the airport opened to the public in 1938. The 1960/1970s pier-top viewing .Runway Visitors Park facilities have been closed because of security concerns. In May 1992, an official .Runway Visitors Park (AVP) was created just off the A538 road on the south-western side of the airfield. This was moved to the western side of the airfield in May 1997 to allow construction of the second runway.[95] Renamed the Runway Visitor Park in June 2010, the facility is regarded as providing the best official viewing facilities for aircraft spotting at any major UK airport by aircraft enthusiasts.[96] Visitors can view aircraft taking off and landing from both runways and aircraft taxiing to and from the runways. This attraction now draws around 300,000 visitors a year and is one of Greater Manchester's top 10 attractions.[97]
The visitor park also has a cafe and a shop selling aviation related items. Aircraft on display are:
G-BOAC, a retired British Airways Concorde, once the flagship of the airline's seven-strong Concorde fleet. The project to build a hangar for the jet was delayed due to the discovery of protected Great Crested Newts[98] on the site, which the airport is under obligation to rehouse at their own expense. The aircraft was moved into the hangar on 13 January 2009.

Level 13 of the short-stay car park at Terminal 1 has another viewing location, popular with spotters for the last 32 years. As part of a recent refurbishment, the café and aviation shop which were once part of the viewing area have now been closed, with the aviation shop moving to the Terminal 1 arrivals area. The level (13) is now used as a car park for rental cars. The building that once housed the cafe and aviation shop is now the reception area/offices for the car rental companies. Spotting is still tolerated on level 13 and it is still a good place to take pictures of aircraft taxiing and parked up at Terminal 1, Terminal 2, the World Freight Terminal and the hangars. Terminal 3 stands are not visible from level 13; they are better viewed from the south side of the airport near Moss Lane.
The Airport Hotel is a public house operated by Robinson's Brewery and is on Ringway Road about 0.5 mi (0.80 km) from the airport. Its beer garden overlooks the east end of Taxiway J and the eastern threshold of runway 23R which are only 50 ft (15 m) away and provides good views of east-west landing approaches and some take-off rolls. The Runway Visitor Park is located just off the main terminal areas of the airport along Wilmslow Road. This unique location offers a wealth of attractions for young and old alike, including the chance to view our planes take off from the best seat in the Manchester Airport Visitors Centre.Insta360

A trip to Manchester Airport on this freezing day of Wednesday 16th November 2016. The reason of the visit was to catch the last Cathay Pacific B747-467 (B-HUJ) which wasn't arriving till late afternoon from Hong Kong. However a great surprise to have our first A320neo (D-AINA) visiting Manchester on a first visit operating for Lufthansa, very privileged to be there!! A day of history!!
