Loughborough is a town in the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire, England. Loughborough is the seat of Charnwood Borough Council and home to Loughborough University. Loughborough is close to the Nottinghamshire border and is within a short distance of locations such as Nottingham, the East Midlands Airport and Derby.

Loughborough has the world's largest bell foundry — John Taylor Bellfounders, which made the bells for the Carillon war memorial, a landmark within the Queens Park in the town, Great Paul for St Paul's Cathedral, and York Minster. The first mention of Loughborough is in the 1086 Domesday Book. Loughborough's local weekly newspaper is the Loughborough Echo. The town of Loughborough is also served by Leicestershire's daily newspaper, the Leicester Mercury.

Loughborough railway station is the mainline national station serving the town. Network Rail has recently redeveloped the station, increasing the length of platforms and improving access. The local council has made concurrent improvements to the surrounding area. The M1's Junction 23 lies just to the west of Loughborough. The River Soar passes by to the east of the town. Navigation from Loughborough north towards the Trent was achieved in 1778 by the Loughborough Navigation, which terminates at Loughborough Wharf between Derby Road and Bridge Street.

Leicester Cathedral and the Leicester Skyline

A beautiful autumnal morning in Leicester with amazing dawn light spreading across the Leicester skyline and bathing Leicester Cathedral in glorious sunlight.

Across the Leicester skyline can be seen Welford Road, home of the Leicester Tigers, the National Space Centre, Leicester City Football Club and the De Montfort University buildings amongst many other well known Leicester landmarks.

The activities surrounding Rothley Station during the Low Season Weekend Timetable. The Locomotives in action were:

It was an unusual weekend all in all as all the locomotives were facing North with gave me an opportunity to get some different footage. The 8F had it's turn on a DALEX course which the Peak took over it's other duties.

Leicester to Nottingham on the Great Central.

Take a ride on a DMU along the Great Central Railway in the late 1960s. The invaluable record of the line was shot by a supporter of the Great Central Railway when the line was operated by British Railways and shows many locations which today have either been restored or have disappeared. Look out for the crossing of the Midland Main Line bridge just north of Loughborough. This bridge has been rebuilt as part of the reunification project.

GCR on Sunday 24th January 2010

With just ONE WEEK TO GO before the Winter Gala, I thought that I would do some pre-event preparation and test out some new locations for next week. Unfortunately I could only get to one because it started to rain so I hitched a lift in the car. However I'm quite pleased with the shot at Swithland (even if it is a bit jerky panning round!). The GCR was holding a Black 5 themed weekend with two of the Stanier creations in action. These being:
-No.45231 'The Sherwood Forester' &
-No.44767 'George Stephenson'
44767 is appearing in weathered livery after it's overhaul until the repaint by the GCR (don't quote me on that!)

GCR 1960's Gala 25th-28th March 2010 (Part 2)

This is the second part of the Great Central Railway's annual 1960's Gala, 2010. We start off theis part on the Firday with three Steam Locomotives in action plus the Class 20 on 'Driver for a Fiver' duties (not shown). These were:

After seeing a brisk departure from Loughborough with No.60163 on the 6:15pm train, we move on to Saturday which is introduced with another impressive Postal Drop at Quorn with Tornado. All of Saturday's activities were filmed at Quorn & Woodhouse. Saturday stepped up to an intensive timetable with Expresses, Locals, Goods, Parcels and the ever loved Pick up/Drop off goods (in Part 3). The full Locomotive line up on Saturday was:
