Saga Prefecture is a prefecture in the northwest part of the island of Kyushu, Japan. It touches both the Sea of Japan and the Ariake Sea. The western part of the prefecture is a region famous for producing ceramics and porcelain, particularly the towns of Karatsu, Imari, and Arita. The capital is the city of Saga.

  • 2. Chikugo River Lift Bridge Saga
    The Chikugo River Lift Bridge is a vertical lift railway bridge across the Chikugo River in Kyūshū, Japan. It was completed in 1935. The bridge has a total length of 507.2 metres , with a moveable span of 24.2 metres long and a vertical rise of 23 metres . It links Ōkawa, Fukuoka with Morodomi, Saga, and used to be part of the Saga Railway Line. When that line ceased operation in 1987 the bridge was closed to traffic. In 1996 it was reopened for pedestrians in response to requests from the public. A precision miniature model of the bridge, which describes its structure, was exhibited at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne .
