Welcome to the Treasure Chamber Suldal!

Suldal, with a population of around 4,000, is geographically the largest municipality in the county of Rogaland. In the administrative centre of Sand, you will find the Suldal tourist information centre and plenty of shops and other services. Suldal offers a wide range of attractions, activities, accommodation, restaurants and cafés, catering for all tastes throughout the year.

Attractions in Suldal include the Salmon Studio (Laksestudio), the Suldalsdampen paddle steamer, Blåsjø lake, the coastal community of Jelsa and the Ryfylke Museum. The museum has several sites around the district.

Suldal is blessed with beautiful countryside, and there are plenty of trails for short walks or longer hikes in lowlands and mountains alike. If you like fishing, you’ll love Suldal: there is great fishing in the sea, in rivers and in freshwater lakes.

Wiki: Bergen Airport, Flesland (Norwegian: Bergen lufthavn, Flesland; IATA: BGO, ICAO: ENBR) is an international airport located at Flesland in Bergen, a city and municipality in Hordaland county, Norway.

Opened in 1955, it is the second-busiest airport in Norway, with 6,078,589 passengers in 2014. Flesland is operated by the state-owned Avinor. Until 1999 Flesland Air Station of the Norwegian Air Force was co-located at the airport.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), Norwegian Air Shuttle and Widerøe are the largest airlines operating at the airport. The route to Oslo Airport, Gardermoen is among the busiest in Europe. A substantial traffic is generated by CHC Helikopter Service and Bristow Norway to offshore oil platforms in the North Sea.

Originally Bergen was served by water aerodromes at Flatøy, Sandviken and Herdla. Financing of Flesland was largely secured through NATO funds and the airport opened on 2 October 1955. Until the 1980s, Bergen was the Norwegian airport used for SAS' intercontinental flights to New York. New terminals were opened in 1988 and in August 2017. The Bergen Light Rail was extended to the airport and opened in April 2017.

Rotterdam is a true metropolis. Most of the urban area is built in polders with ground levels up to 7 meters below sea level. Its skyline, showcasing distinctive landmarks including the Erasmus Bridge and the Euromast, can be seen from miles away. The Rough Guide and the New York Times ranked Rotterdam nr. 8 and nr. 10 on their lists of must-see cities for 2014, recommending the new De Rotterdam building designed by Rem Koolhaas and the Markthal indoor market. Rotterdam is an extraordinarily dynamic city featuring modern architecture, festivals, sporting events, unique shops and boutiques and cutting-edge art and culture.

Ferry trip from Høllen, Norway -- Kristiansand Port of Call// Fjords cruise (September)

Sunday morning (September 8th 2013), it was cold and windy and cloudy while arriving in our first Port of Call in NORWAY aboard RCI cruise ship, Vision of the Seas.

At 10:10AM, in Kristiansand, we decided to board the bus # 40 to Høllen (25 minutes trip). Bus ticket = 50 NOK/ person (local currency).

The *bus number 40* will take us to Høllen Brygge (Høllen Pier).

Høllen (located just under 20 kilometers west of Kristiansand) is a small fishing village in the municipality of Søgne in Vest-Agner.

In Høllen, we caught the ferry ride at 10:30AM (that ride takes approx. 75 minutes). Ferry ticket = 100 NOK/ person (local currency)

At 14:51 (or 15:51) you can board the bus # 40 back to Kristiansand (25 minutes trip). Bus ticket = 50 NOK/ person (local currency)


M/B Høllen is the only boat/ferry operating in September (from the Høllen pier in Søgne); it is a lovely trip and well worth a visit (especially in nice weather; there are seating indoor as well if the weather is not cooperating).

This ferry makes a number of stops at local islands.

While in Høllen - don't miss a walk down Høllegata (a quaint street with picturesque white timber houses a stroll from the pier).

There is also a gentleman selling fresh crabs from his boat at the dock; a stroll with an ice cream in hand is always good.

(It does seem strange I know, but Norwegians are actually one of the biggest consumers of ice cream in the world, only beaten by the Kiwis)

All the buildings are wooden in a choice of red or white. Figureheads (that have been retired from boat prows) now adorn some of the houses.

There are dogs on leash everywhere along with flowers tucked along fence lines.
