Mystery of Taiwan's Abandoned UFO Village
I'm fascinated by places that have been abandoned. When I heard whispers that such a place existed outside Taipei in Taiwan, I wanted to see it. The only problem? It's not on the map and I wasn't sure it even existed anymore. There's a lot of mystery and confusion about whether this 'village' is still standing. Knowing we might find nothing, we boarded a bus and crossed our fingers. And guess what? Taiwan's so-called 'Abandoned UFO Village' of Futuro and Venturo houses is still there. Watch this video to take a look around and peek inside this mysterious community that was abandoned in 1980 and has been called the most haunted place in Taiwan.
Inside Taiwan's UFO houses 万里弃弃
Finally I made it to Wanli to check these out - sadly Taiwan's larger and more famous pod village in Sanzhi has long since been demolished. I wasn't expecting to see that some of these houses, though not the iconic yellow ones, have been renovated and are being used again. It's a nice area apart from the abundance of mosquitoes, though it seems like a massively over-ambitious project from a time when there can't have been much demand for a resort like this. The second 'UFO' house I went inside seemed to have been squatted in recently from the coins and clothes lying around. The whole complex is surprisingly close to a lot of other, more modern developments and a popular beach.

◎From Chungshan Freeway, exit at Badu Interchange, turn left to Keekin Road and drive through Wanli to Pacific Green Bay
◎From National Freeway 2, exit at Wanli Interchange, turn left to Keekin Road and drive through Wanli to Pacific Green Bay
◎On Binhai Road, drive in the direction of Tamshui/Kinshan to Pacific Green Bay
◎From Yankin Road in the direction of Yangminshan to Kinshan, connect to Binhai Road to Pacific Green Bay

Sanzhi UFO houses, also known as the Sanzhi pod houses or Sanzhi Pod City, were a set of abandoned and never completed pod-shaped buildings in Sanzhi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan. The buildings resembled Futuro houses, some examples of which can be found elsewhere in Taiwan. The site where the buildings were located was owned by Hung Kuo Group.

I Found An Abandoned UFO Village in Taiwan (HD Version)
The Sanzhi UFO houses was a famous beach house development in New Taipei City, Taiwan featuring futuristic space pod living spaces that were abandoned and never completed. Eventually they were demolished in 2008. Who knows if Sanzhi, or this other beach house development I discovered in Northern Taiwan through research and first-hand accounts were beach developments or simply a cover up and ultimately destruction of evidence that extraterrestrial life at one time was present in Taiwan. One story behind this development involves a soda pop tycoon's investment in a beach house community in the 70's made up of futuro and venturo homes that failed and subsequently were also abandoned. Like the main character in the novel and movie adaptation filmed on location in Taiwan, Life Of Pi, I ask you which story would you prefer? The failed attempts at real estate development by Taiwanese millionaires, or aliens seeking to establish beach front communities while enjoying the rich culture, amazing food, night markets, hot springs, great health care, and a new hope on Ila Formosa, the beautiful island. You decide!

10. Beelitz Military Hospital, Berlin, Germany :
It was the year 1916 when a young German soldier was sent to this Berlin Hospital in order to recuperate from injuries sustained in World War I. Later to become the infamous Adolf Hitler, the hospital where he recovered was to suffer nary a scratch over the course of the next century. These days its abandoned halls stand as a tribute to some of the darkest days in human history.
9. San Zhi Resort, Taiwan :
Found in Taiwan, this place was originally constructed to be a luxury resort but after a series of fatal accidents it was shut down by the government. Since then it has been shrouded in secrecy and not even the locals will dare to venture near the “death pods”.
8. Takakonuma Greenland Park :
After opening in the 70s this theme park was abruptly closed down supposedly due to a number of deaths on its rides and what was once intended to be the happiest place on Earth is now gradually being swallowed by the encroaching wilderness. The close proximity to Fukushima (where the nuclear reactor melted down) and the ever present fog make this one of the top contenders for the next big zombie outbreak.
7. Staten Island Tugboat Graveyard, New York :
Just north of Rossville on Staten Island, New York, you’ll find the final resting place of hundreds of tugboats, ferries, and barges, most of which are century old remnants of a time when New York Harbor was still alive and kicking.
6. Prague’s Old Jewish Cemetery, Prague :
Normally 1 overcrowded cemetery is enough to be considered creepy. The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague, however, takes things to a whole new level considering that it is actually 11 cemeteries stacked on top of each other! That’s right, the cemetery got so full that not once, not twice, but 11 times they actually decided to just build another cemetery right on top of the old one.
5. Matsuo Ghost Mine, Northern Japan :
Located in northern Japan, this was once the largest sulfur mine in the Far East. After closing in the 70's however, it was abandoned and the only thing remaining are the large residential complexes that used to house all of the workers. What makes this place so creepy though is the heavy mist that constantly shrouds the area. It’s so heavy in fact that some people have reported taking days to find the place.
4. Ghost City of Fengdu, China :
This 2,000 year old ghost town is something like hell on earth, at least the Chinese version. Believed by locals to be the spot where spirits “crossover” after death, the place is chock full of burial sites and mock torture devices.
3. Aokigahara Forest, Mt Fuji, Japan :
It’s not just the dense shrubbery that makes this place so creepy. It’s all the dead bodies. Located at the base of Mt Fuji, ever since the 1950s the Japanese have been committing suicided here in droves. In fact, its so bad that there are now signs scattered throughout the woods with sayings such as “life is precious” and “think of your family”.

Around the 17th and 18th centuries Paris’s cemeteries were getting so full that residue from decaying organic material was getting into the water supply and creating very unsanitary conditions. Hence the creation of the Paris Catacombs.
1. Actun Tunichil Muknal, Stone Sepulcher :
Also known as the Cave of the Stone Sepulcher, it’s like something straight out of Indiana Jones. Housing numerous skeletons, the creepiest thing about this place is that most of them belong to children…sacrificed children to be more precise. Most likely many years ago there was a drought and these unfortunate youngsters were the ones chosen to have their skulls crushed.

13. Varosha, Cyprus
Varosha is a quarter south of the Cypriot city of Famagusta. It is located within Northern Cyprus. Prior to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, it was the modern tourist area of Famagusta. Its inhabitants fled during the invasion, and it has remained abandoned ever since.

Wonderland is an abandoned amusement park construction project located in Chenzhuang Village. Construction stopped in 1998 following financial problems with local officials.
